00:00When learning to play the game of golf, we have to focus on the fundamentals and in my
00:11opinion the most important fundamental is the grip, how we hold the club.
00:16So I'm a right-handed golfer, so when I take my grip, my left hand goes to the top of the
00:22club.
00:23From there, my right hand would be below my left.
00:27Now how we hold the club is important.
00:30Most people when they go and they just take up the game without lessons, you will find
00:33that they go into like a baseball grip or a cricket grip.
00:37What this does is, yes you'll have a hold of the club, but more often than not, one
00:41hand is more dominant than the other.
00:44The key to perfecting the grip and getting your hands in the correct position is both
00:49hands work in unison.
00:50So a good grip would look something like this.
00:53My left hand, club's going to sit diagonally down, so if this is my palm and I've got that
01:00line there, my grip is going to sit diagonally down until it goes into that last line of
01:05my forefinger, like that.
01:07As I wrap my fingers around and close my palm, you will see that my left hand is in this
01:14position.
01:15Key points to note, this line on my left hand between thumb and forefinger, if it was to
01:21go all the way up, it would point towards my right shoulder.
01:25From my perspective looking down, I can see two knuckles, two and a half knuckles on my
01:31left hand and I have a bit of angle at the base of my left wrist.
01:35That is called the dish angle.
01:37A final thing to note, my thumb, there is no gap between thumb and forefinger and the
01:42end of my thumb lines up almost perfectly with the middle knuckle on my left forefinger.
01:48Now with the right hand, we want the grip to sit almost exclusively in the fingers.
01:53So I'm going to take this pinky, I'm going to sit it on top of that gap there between
01:58forefinger and middle finger and I'll just get the grip more towards the fingers there.
02:04My index finger is going to stretch down a little bit more.
02:08Once I'm in this position, I just want to wrap my hand around.
02:12A key thing you will note is the left thumb is going to fit nicely in the gap of the right
02:17palm and the fleshy part of your right thumb is going to cover the left thumb like that.
02:23And a final thing to note, the line there between thumb and forefinger on my right hand
02:28goes towards my chin.
