Coronavirus: Doctor speaks of delight after being granted 10-year UAE visa

Last week’s announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to award 10-year visas to 212 doctors who had risked their lives to treat coronavirus patients in the emirate has sent out a thrill of gratitude across the medical community. 00:00Well, I got information via email from His Excellency, the Director General of the Dubai

00:11Health Authority, and it was information from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, who is the patron

00:20of the health service in Dubai.

00:22So, it was a written invitation or information about the visa, which has been extended by

00:3410 years. It was a very exciting moment to read that. You realise that there is a lot

00:43of recognition really, and I think everybody who got the information was very excited about

00:49it. I was very excited about it. I said, well, I was not intending to stay 10 more years

00:55here, but it gave me a sort of a hint of what I'm required to be here and so on, for what

01:03I do. The message is that we are doing an important job in the hospital, and I think

01:09we didn't know that. We were reminded that our job was very important by this offer of

01:16a 10-year visa. So, we were very happy actually about it, that we got this recognition that

01:23we are doing a very important job for the society. Well, next for me is just to continue

01:27doing what we've been doing for the last five years really, and I think we are going to

01:35do it with the knowledge that is being appreciated, and that's a different feeling. In the past

01:42we were doing what we were supposed to do. Now we are doing something which everybody

01:46thinks is very important. So, somehow we are going to feel a bit different. We are going

01:51to feel more confident, more proud, more dedicated maybe. I don't know, I think that's the feeling

02:00I personally have. I haven't talked to my friends about this.
