Suspected Department Store Gas Explosion Kills Several People in Taichung

A deadly blast at a department store has killed several people in Taichung. The incident is believed to be a gas explosion.

00:00This is the moment an explosion ripped through a Taichung department store on Thursday morning.

00:09The blast devastated two floors, claiming several lives and injuring dozens of people.

00:15In response, over a hundred firefighters and two search-and-rescue dogs were dispatched

00:20to locate and help survivors. Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan also rushed to the scene. She says

00:27she felt the shaking from the blast from her nearby office.

00:57While the cause of the blast hasn't been confirmed, a gas explosion is believed to

01:03be the source. And this is not the first time this department store has suffered a blast.

01:08Twenty-five years ago, a gas stove ignited insecticide being sprayed inside. Authorities

01:14have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
