00:00Hello everyone, we are in the heart of Karama, a very popular and old district of Dubai.
00:07For the uninitiated, Karama is an Arabic word and it means dignity.
00:12And this place has been home to several thousands of people, mostly South Asians.
00:18And it is one of the most popular districts of Dubai.
00:23It houses many consulates. The Zabeel Park is also here in Karama.
00:28And we at Gulf News are doing a community guide on Karama.
00:33Well, I'm standing right in front of the famous Lulu Supermarket.
00:37Behind me is the Karama Center. It is a place where people love to shop,
00:42not just from this area, but the neighborhood like Bar Dubai.
00:47And people come all the way from Jebel Ali as well.
00:50Karama is spread across two kilometers of area.
00:53And yet it is home to thousands and thousands of people and retailers in the city of Dubai.
00:59There are three sub-communities that make up Karama,
01:02Al-Wasil Club, the Sheikh Hamdan Colony and the Karama Center.
01:06Karama is home to a number of restaurants offering varied cuisines,
01:10considering it's such a mixed population here of South Asians.
01:14So you'll find a lot of Indian restaurants, a lot of Filipino restaurants,
01:17and a lot of Sri Lankan eateries as well.
01:20Just behind me is the famous Sangeeta restaurant.
01:23I personally remember shopping here at Lulu and then going and eating there at Sangeeta restaurant.
01:29It's truly a fulfilling meal that you get right there.
01:33Right behind me is the very popular fish market of Karama.
01:38People from all over Dubai come here to buy cheap seafood.
01:44There is a bus terminal just opposite.
01:48A lot of them actually take the bus to reach here.
01:51They get themselves dropped at the station
01:53and just hop right in front and shop for their favorite seafood.
01:59And we're standing here in front of the Dubai Central Post Office
02:02and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.
02:06This is also the place where the Happiness Center is located.
02:09And it is again in a very bustling part of Karama.
02:14Karama is complete when it comes to amenities.
02:16We've seen the number of restaurants, these locale houses,
02:19and when it comes to public transportation, there's no dearth of it.
02:22Behind me is the ADCB station, which is located right in the heart of Karama,
02:28as well as people can get off at the Bar Dubai station or the Oudh Mehta station
02:33and make their way to Karama as both these stations are very accessible to the area.
02:38There are a number of buses which fly in Karama.
02:42And so when it comes to using public transportation,
02:45there is no dearth of it in this area.
02:47And that is why you see a number of people like bachelors and small families living here.
02:56They don't really have to own a private vehicle.
02:58They can use the public transportation.
03:00It's very easy and convenient.
03:02Housing as well is very affordable.
03:04And that is why Karama is such a popular locale.
