00:00In 1960, Dubai Airport was launched. It was a small step in the transporting passengers sector.

00:08In 2020, that small step became a giant leap. Dubai International Airport welcomed 86.4 million

00:16passengers last year and became the world's number one hub in international passengers.

00:23Waiting times was reduced by 15% last year. The question is how?

00:30The traveler's ordeal of dealing with long queues at passport control in the airports

00:36is not a problem at Dubai International Airport. With the aid of smart gates and tunnel that

00:41crippled waiting times in the busiest hub for passengers in the world. In the last two years,

00:45the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai developed their

00:50own smart solutions to cut waiting times at the Dubai International Airport until they came

00:56rolled out their smart tunnel that uses biometric technology in a state of human checks to allow

01:01some air travelers to go through passport control in just a few seconds. More than 12.3 million

01:07travelers use the smart gates and the smart tunnel, an increase by 7.4% of 2018. So can you

01:14tell us more about the smart gates and what it's mean to Dubai? Dubai airport always looking to be

01:19number one in the world. Why we have a different smart gates in the Dubai airports because there

01:26is only one touch point and this touch point you can use all the security features in that smart

01:34gates with the cameras can capturing your iris and the facial as well and reading your passport

01:42boarding pass. You don't need to use more steps. It's very easy and faster around the 30 13 seconds

01:53to do the process and smart gates. We've seen a lot of passengers traveling from different airports

01:59all around the world. But in Dubai, passengers, they have a different impression when they arrive

02:06on when they departed. Can we know why? As you know, Dubai airports and we say Dubai airports

02:13and we are talking about the passport control section. We are the first impression and the last

02:20impression. Okay, maybe we are not the last, but at least we are keeping one point of the last

02:25impression. So when you are coming to number one airport in the world, you have to see something

02:33different. You have to see something, I mean, makes Dubai different. And this is why, as my colleague

02:42lieutenant colonel said, it is designed only for Dubai airport. So that's why we are giving the

02:50first impression to our passengers and to the visitors of Dubai. So now we're gonna go to the

02:56smart tunnel to see the experience. Just watch us.

03:07When we started the smart tunnel as a trial, we didn't have a location for the registration. We

03:15found here the counter 62 to do the registration. Now you can do the registration for both smart

03:21gate and smart tunnel. But I would like to tell everybody as a passenger, when you arrive Dubai

03:29airports, just all the counter, they can do the registration for you. Don't worry, don't think

03:36that the process will take longer. It's the same process on arrival and seconds they will register

03:43you on the smart tunnel or smart gates.

03:53This is the smart tunnel. What is this thing? What's the smart tunnel? Actually, this is the future of

04:00the airport journey or travel journey. All the passengers, they don't need to

04:06use the documents, nothing. Your iris is your document to do the process as you walk. There

04:14is no stop. There is no time for waiting the queue. Just a normal walk and you do the your process

04:25with your iris, your documents and you can go through to the security and other touch points.

04:35Is this the first time you're using the smart tunnel? Yeah, actually I have seen it for the

04:39very first time, otherwise I've been using the other smart gates. So what do you think about

04:43the smart tunnel? Yeah, it's very time effective actually. I mean it takes only seconds to clear.

04:48So it's very new and good thing indeed. What's your impression after you cross? Very fast,

04:55very clever, very efficient.

05:07Now it's 2020. Expo is coming. Yes. What's your preparation?

05:13Of course, you saw our preparation. You saw the smart gates, the smart tunnel. So now we have like

05:22around maybe eight months or seven months. So this month we are asking our client, our passenger,

05:30just only if they have any comments, if they have any suggestions, opinions, they can just call us

05:36on our toll-free 805 111. So they are most welcome and we launched in GDRFA Dubai a new hashtag.

05:45We say that GDRFA Dubai is ready. So we are ready for Expo and for all the events before the event,

05:54before Expo event and after Expo event. So at the end of our journey today at Dubai airports,

06:00we've seen a lot of passengers fascinated and thrilled of the technology that they've seen

06:07while using the smart tunnels and the smart gates at Dubai International Airport.

06:12It's a glimpse of the future and it shows that Dubai is ready for the big events,
