00:00Welcome to the next edition of Caught in Crime with Ali. He's going to talk to us about the top
00:07four stories that he has come across this week. We start off with a case that you can actually
00:12find online on gulfnews.com right now, which is about this man who was arrested and is being
00:20investigated for stealing a couple of mangoes. Yes, it's one of what's one of the honey or
00:26strange cases that recently it was in Dubai court of first instance. A man who's he's an
00:33airport worker at Terminal 3 surveillance cameras saw him stealing from a fruit box.
00:40So after they arrested him, he confessed that he stole two pieces of mangoes because he was
00:47feeling thirsty and he was searching for water. So he found this box and he stole from it two
00:53pieces of mango. The two pieces of mango it's it's worth six six dirham. Yeah, but I think the
00:59point here is I know a lot of people even on our social media, we've had people reacting saying,
01:04reacting saying, oh, it's just, you know, two mangoes. But I think, yeah, like you said,
01:09it's a message that it is airport security and you cannot take other people's things. Yes, it's
01:16a strong message from the authority that even if it's a small amount of anything, just like the two
01:23pieces of mango, I reported a couple of incidents of airport worker who's stealing a piece of gum.
01:30So it's a message that because it's a kind of security, they are in a place where it's all
01:37monitored by CCTV cameras. And they are just like they cannot open the bags and steal from it. So
01:44this guy and others, they just like they monitor by CCTV cameras, his supervisor, a security guard,
01:51he noticed him just like opening the fruit box. It's supposed to go it's a box of mango. It's
01:57supposed to go to India. And he just like he snatched two pieces of mango. So it's this case,
02:04he was charged with embezzling two pieces of mango, which is send a straight strong message
02:11for for all workers that they cannot do that because it's punished by law. He can be even
02:17deported. Yes, because of that. Yes. So you might think it's a bit disproportionate. But the point
02:23of the matter is that the intent and where it happened is not acceptable because it violates
02:27security. Which brings us to the second story, and which is again a big story on gulfnews.com. And
02:40if you have not read it, we advise that you definitely go on and read it, which is about this
02:45fake money making racket. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's a video went viral on social media. It's
02:53showing a man with an Emirati dress. He was with with an African guy, he was checking piles of
03:01dollars. It's five huge boxes of dollars. He was checking them. It was a strange and many people
03:09they said it's not in Dubai, it's not happening Dubai. But at the end, Dubai police revealed that
03:14the video that went viral, it was actually it's happened in Dubai. This man he met, he knew that
03:21he knew the gang from online. And they just like they told him that they can double his money. So
03:29it's it's a double money gang. They they lured him they brought him to this apartment, they show
03:34him the piles of dollars. They said that he can double his money. And they were recording him
03:39secretly. Okay, but when he refused, they threatened him with this video. So he went to Dubai police and
03:46he reported the incidents to criminal investigation department, Dubai police, and immediately
03:51officers raided the apartment and arrested the gang. And they found piles of fake dollars. It was
03:57all fake. Okay, it was all fake. But the video went viral. Because when you when you when you watch the
04:05piles of dollars, you're gonna think oh, it's real. Yeah, but it's not real. Yes. So the gang was
04:10arrested. Yeah, which again, like you said earlier is a warning again, that please do not be fooled by
04:16these online scams that are happening and people being lured, etc. And warning, especially with the
04:22double money scam. It's happened recently a couple of times. And unfortunately, a lot of people are
04:27still for being fools. And they just like they want to double the money. You know, some people want and
04:34Dubai police, especially Colonel Faisal Qasim, director of security media at Dubai police, he
04:40calls the public if they were lured by such kind of gangs, or if they hear such kind of crimes that
04:48happen, they can immediately report it to through Dubai police channels. It's either telephone 901 on
04:54a triple nine, or through a crime platform. We talked about it before. There are a lot of easy ways to
05:01report such kind of crimes. Yes. So use them. Yeah.
05:10And the third story is again, which is up on our website, which is about the wife who got stabbed by
05:17her husband and revenge. Yeah, yeah, this murder. It's happened this week. On Monday morning. Dubai police
05:25received a report about a body in a parking lot at Elkoz area. After investigation, they discovered that a
05:33husband, Indian husband, he killed his wife. She's from Kerala. He stabbed her to death. The man confessed
05:41that he killed his wife, because he was suspecting that she was having an illegal affair with another man. So he
05:49wanted to revenge from his wife. And he went to her workplace in Elkoz area. And after he did argument in the
05:57parking area, he stabbed her with a knife that he was hiding. He stopped her a couple of times and she died and he
06:04escaped. But at the end, he arrested with from Dubai police. So it's a revenge crime. Yeah, it's so sad that it's
06:11happened. Yes. Yeah, but it's a revenge crime that happened. It's a husband killed his wife to death. Okay. Yeah. And
06:20if we've actually taken the story further, and we have more details, all of that you can read on our story on
06:26gulfnews.com. Yeah. Which brings us to the last and the fourth story, which is actually quite sad.
06:34It is a Jordanian woman who was exploited for her loneliness. Yes. It's a case that at Dubai court of first
06:45incidents. It's a Jordanian woman, she came to the UAE to work and she was searching for a flat to rent. She posted on
06:52Facebook that she's looking for a flat. A guy called her. He's also Jordanian. And he went out with her a couple of times
07:01relationship developed between both of them. He promised to marry her. So he told her that he called her father and he
07:10proposed to her officially. He asked her just like to go to Jordan to make the wedding ceremony. When she went there, she
07:18discovered later that he stole her credit card. And then he started fabricating stories for her that he he's in need for
07:26money, that he has fines to pay. He he even claimed that he's working for an airline and that he went to Riyadh in Saudi
07:35Arabia. And he made an accident. He ran over a person that he wanted money to treat him in hospital. So this poor girl, she
07:45believed in him. And she start sending money and then she borrowed money from her father and from her family members to send it to
07:52this guy. And he kept fabricating stories in a promise that he would not some he managed to swindle from one. It's about 195,000
08:00dirhams he managed to get from her. She even sold her car. Oh, my God. Yes. And finally, she just like she was fed up. So she told him
08:10she won't pay any kind of money for him. So he threatened her because he stole her mobile number. He stole her phone number. He
08:17obtained private pictures of her. So he threatened her with those private pictures that he going to defame her online if she refused to pay
08:26him more amount of money. But she reported that she was brave enough. She reported the incident to Dubai police. Dubai police arrested
08:32the man. But they discovered that this guy, he had a lot of victims. He lured the Brazilian women, women from Sharjah and from Ajman
08:43with the same criminal style. OK, the same mode of operation. Yes, exactly. He promised them of marriage. Those women feeling lonely. So
08:53they just like sadly they fall in his scam. So hope that she does get her justice soon and she manages to recover some of her money. Yeah, I mean,
09:03this guy now he's on trial in Dubai courts of first instance. He's on trial for threatening robbery. I mean, yeah, he's on trial now. So justice
09:15will be served. And on that note, we end today's edition of Court and Crime. Thank you very much for joining us. We'll see you again next
