Considered one of the most beautiful and emblematic bookshops in the world, Lello was founded by two intellectual brothers of Porto’s bourgeoisie, Jose and Antanio Lello, way back in 1906. But its charming building, including its Neo-Gothic façade, legendary wooden staircase, stained glass skylight and built-in cart on rails remains unchanged to date.

00:42This building was constructed by our engineer, Francisco Xavier, and it's from 1906.
00:50So, it has 113 years old, the building. And it has a little bit of, you know, gothic style, Art Nouveau.

01:04One thing that pops up, it's our ceiling. It seems like to be carved wood, but it's made of plaster.

01:16On the first floor we have an installation made by a sculptor, a Portuguese sculptor.
