The vigilante thriller, with Kher and Esha Gupta, fails on many fronts. Veteran actor Anupam Kher plays Justice Tyagi, a gracious legal man who turns vigilante upon retirement. Tyagi, who has always played by the rule book during his service, is out to torture and eke out a confession from all those criminals he let go due to lack of evidence in his court. As a premise it’s intriguing, but the execution by director Ashok Nanda is choppy and lopsided.

00:00Is this a circus?
00:01Isha Gupta, who plays a fierce cop in the thriller One Day Justice Delivered,
00:06asks her male colleague after she exits her prison cell after pummeling a guy brutally.
00:13That's one thought that enters our mind as an audience when we watch this thriller
00:17starring Anupam Kher and Gupta, who's terribly miscast in this film.
00:21We have Anupam Kher who plays the role of Justice Tyagi who goes rogue when he realizes
00:31that he has not been successful in sentencing criminals through his career.
00:36So he decides to turn into a superman where he turns into a vigilante
00:40who commits a series of kidnappings across the city.
00:44Is it bizarre? Yes, it is.
00:46And is the pace languid? Yes, it is.
00:48Anupam Kher plays this very unassuming,
00:50gracious judge who feels he's not been very successful at putting criminals behind bars.
00:56So what does he do after retirement?
00:57He makes a living then by committing a series of kidnappings and trying to torture them to
01:03give out a confession of sorts through brutal methods.
01:06Police brutality is glorified in this film
01:09and absolutely there's no case of retribution to any of the players in this film.
01:14Anupam Kher who plays such a soft-spoken,
01:17unassuming character suddenly becomes this superman.
01:20Is it convincing? Not so much.
01:22One of the main problems that I have with the movie is the casting of Isha Gupta.
01:26I think she's beautiful and she dances like a dream.
01:30But the problem here is she's not very convincing as a fierce cop.
01:34The moment she starts breaking into a dialect in Hindi, it just seems so wrong.
01:40In fact, she just does not have the talent to convince us otherwise
01:44that she's not just all about glamour.
01:47In fact, her introductory scene is her playing a seductress at a nightclub in Kolkata.
01:52We're told it's an undercover operation and she's there to nab a criminal.
01:56But I have a feeling that the director had in mind was to commercialise this movie
02:01by showcasing her beautiful bodacious body and also gyrating her hips.
02:06It just did not make much sense to have a police officer
02:10who's out to clean the grime in the city and crime in the city
02:14suddenly break out into a song and dance.
02:16It wasn't very convincing at all.
02:18And also the director, Ashok Nanda,
02:20has this propensity to add titillating numbers into the mix.
02:24It's supposedly a dark, taut thriller about a judge turning into a vigilante
02:29who has this ambition of cleaning the city of criminals.
02:33He feels as if he was inefficient as a judge
02:36and therefore tries to make up by orchestrating a series of unlawful activities.
02:41In terms of performances, it's only Kher and Kumud Mishra.
02:45He's a seasoned actor who plays Isha Gupta's colleague who's convincing.
02:50Those are the two saving graces in this otherwise insipid film.
02:55In fact, how does Anupam Kher gallivant around kidnapping people without any help
03:00or how does nobody notice this family man turn into a superman
03:05is something that remains a mystery.
03:07As far as the verdict goes for this movie, it's not so favourable.
03:11I've gone with 2 out of 5.
