The flimsy plot and weak chemistry between the leads makes for a tedious watch. It wasn’t the beastly ghost that terrified in ‘Amavas’. What rattled me to the bone was the questionable casting choice behind Bhushan Patel’s horror film.

00:00It was one of the most painful experiences of my life and I'll tell you why.
00:09Hi, this is Manjusha Radhakrishnan from Gulf News Tabloid
00:13and I've just been to watch the horror film, Hindi horror film Amavas.
00:17One of the worst parts about this movie is that Fakri and Joshi
00:21have the collective chemistry of a dead log.
00:24Between them when they speak, I mean they're playing this couple,
00:27partners in love who are soulmates but when you look at them you don't see anything.
00:32I mean it's the eyes that seem dead.
00:35Their lips are moving but somehow you don't feel connected to them.
00:38I think this is one of the biggest downfalls of this film.
00:42Another thing that rattles you apart from the rocking chairs and the creaking doors
00:48is why would a story that is so predictable be made.
00:51The movie opens with the London-based couple Ahana and Karan,
00:54played by Fakri and Sachin Joshi.
00:58They are soulmates but she insists that they return to his childhood summer home.
01:04Now by summer home they mean a castle which has hardly,
01:07it looks very weary and an abandoned castle.
01:10It's almost like this very rich, privileged child Karan has no family whatsoever
01:18or there's nobody in his family to actually look after him.
01:22He seems like this rich orphan, there's not much backstory there.
01:25Another downfall of this film is that none of these characters
01:30seem to breathe life into the dialogues.
01:32I mean what you have is cliched writing.
01:35There's a scene in this movie which is very painfully awkward
01:38where Nargis Fakri looks around and says,
01:41I just don't understand what's happening around here
01:44and I wanted to tell her she's not alone
01:46because half of the things that played out on the screen did not make much sense to us.
01:51And regarding the running time of this movie,
01:53I mean the usual horror tropes like I said is always there.
01:56There's the creaking doors, haunted mansion, weird noises,
02:00there's a shadowy figure shadowing you all the time
02:03and there's always this you know a vengeful ghost out for your blood.
02:08I mean these are things that you've already seen.
02:10It's something that I thought we had already seen in the 90s
02:13and we had grown up but clearly we haven't.
02:16So this is one of the movies that have very little going for it.
02:20Watch this only if you're a strict fan of the horror genres that are unintentionally funny.
02:25I'm going with 1.5 out of 5.
