00:00Good evening and welcome to the Gulf News Wrap of day one of Gitex. I'm Ed Clouds

00:06and we're going to look back on some of the key events from the first day of the technology

00:09event. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, opened the event this morning

00:14alongside his delegation where he inspected a number of the exhibitions and stands. This

00:18was followed shortly after by the big news of the day.

00:21Do and Etisalat will both be introducing their eSIMs for iPhones at the end of this month.

00:26Whilst no subscription plans are available yet, we do know that this has been long awaited

00:31by fans of the iPhone. Previously it was only Etisalat's Apple Watch that was available

00:36and for Do subscribers they'll be glad to know that by Q1 2019 they too will be able

00:41to get eSIMs on their Apple Watches.

00:43Reminder of what an eSIM is? Well essentially it's a virtual SIM card, replacing the need

00:48for a physical chip in your card and allowing you to have a number of different lines on

00:52the same phone, such as a personal and a business line on the same device.

00:56What else happened? Well we had Etisalat launching their flying self-driving car this morning

01:01which some wrote off as a PR stunt, others said it had real practical applications for

01:06the RTA.

01:07Elsewhere we had a number of panel discussions featuring high level intelligence executives

01:12from the IT sector. McKinsey, Google, LinkedIn, Facebook were all represented as they discussed

01:17the future of artificial intelligence and whether it's really as dangerous as we think.

01:22What about tomorrow? Tomorrow we'll have a number of key high level discussions taking

01:27place again, panel discussions, roundtables and keynotes. And once again we'll have more

01:31unveiling of technologies, both consumer technologies and corporate technologies.
