00:00The Fatima bint Muhammad bin Zayed Initiative, or FBMI, is putting up a unique art exhibition
00:14at the Festival Square in Dubai Festival City.
00:16The exhibit, which opened on Sunday evening, showcases artworks of four prominent Emirati
00:21artists who took part in the Artists for Change program of FBMI.
00:26Artists for Change is a new program launched by FBMI in collaboration with UAE artists
00:31and underprivileged artisans in Afghanistan.
00:34The Emirati artists invited to the program Sheikha Wafa Hashir al-Maktoum, Sheikha Maryam
00:39Khalifa al-Nayan, Shamsa al-Abar and Mohammed Hareb each donated their artwork, which were
00:44woven into hand-knotted carpets by female weavers from Afghanistan.
00:49We were very, very lucky for having the artists approach us directly and very, very graciously
00:56donated their artworks to us, which we wove into handmade carpets and I think it's a great
01:01collaboration because it's a UAE foundation, it's a UAE initiative, the work is in Afghanistan
01:06so to link the two together is really special.
01:08The carpets are actually on sale, they can be inquired about and bought as well.
01:12Each piece, the four pieces are all special, they're all unique, they're only one piece,
01:16one of a kind and they come signed by the designer themselves.
01:20The exhibit also unveiled the largest yarn ball ever assembled in the region with a diameter
01:25of three meters.
01:26The ball of yarn is handcrafted out of 100% indigenous wool, hand-spun by female weavers
01:31and dyed with natural vegetable dyes in Afghanistan.
01:35The exhibition will run until June 16.
01:37Visitors will also be able to try their skills on the traditional Afghan carpet loom.
