00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News update for Wednesday, November the 9th.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:08Donald John Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States in a stunning culmination
00:15of an explosive, populist and polarizing campaign.
00:18The surprise outcome defying late polls that showed Hillary Clinton with a persistent edge
00:24threatened convulsions throughout the country and the world.
00:27The triumph for Trump, 70, a real estate developer turned reality television star with no government
00:33experience was a powerful rejection of the establishment forces that had assembled against
00:39him and the consensus they had forged on everything from trade to immigration.
00:44In his victory speech, Trump called for unifying Americans and pledged that he will be the
00:49President for all Americans.
00:52His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister
00:56of the UAE and ruler of Dubai congratulated Trump in a series of tweets.
01:01We offer our congratulations and best wishes both to President-elect Donald Trump and to
01:07the American people.
01:08We look forward to share our message of hope, peace, tolerance and development for a better
01:13world, he wrote.
01:15In the UAE, this is what American expats had to say in their reactions to the win.
01:20There's a real sense that we just need to come together as a nation and as one group
01:25of people, stand behind our vote, stand behind our elected president and just work together
01:31to better the country.
01:33I think the world needs a business leader after all and this is never separated from
01:39politics.
01:40There's not one single business big deal made without a political decision.
01:46So, we live outside the United States and we need his support outside, internationally
01:53and he will do so, he has businesses worldwide.
01:56I would like to think that our new President-elect, who goes into office in January, will do his
02:02utmost to bring the blue and the red states together to be United States of America.
02:09Global markets were meanwhile thrown into disarray.
02:12Futures on the S&P 500 index plunged by a 5% limit, while European equities sank more
02:19than 4%.
02:20Gold had its biggest move since the aftermath of Brexit and the Mexican peso tumbled to
02:26the most since 2008.
02:28And finally, the weather.
02:29Today's high across the UAE will be 32 degrees Celsius, dropping to 23 degrees at night.
02:35That's all for now.
02:36Thanks for watching.
