00:00Thousands gathered at the Maydan Racecourse for the 2016 installment of the Dubai World Cup.
00:10The action on the dirt and turf was thrilling as horse and jockey vied for the top spot in one of nine races taking place on the day.
00:17The Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen Race took place on the dirt track, was a distance of 1,200 meters, and saw the winner taking home a 1.2 million US dollar prize.
00:26This year's winning horse was Morab, jockeyed by Paul Hannigan and trained by Musaba al-Muhari,
00:30who picks up his second win of the night after winning in the first event of the evening, the Dubai Kahala Classic, with his horse, A.F. Mathmoon.
00:37I feel he is a good horse. He moves every time and he does what I want.
00:43Easy to give him work, easy to give him gallop, easy to do anything.
00:49You know when you walk in the morning you think he is nothing because he is very quiet.
00:56This is the horse to give you performance because he didn't fight in the walk but in the gallop no one can catch him.
01:04Morab is very, very tough and genuine and nine times out of ten when he does get into a battle he normally does prevail
01:12but the second horse was very tough as well but he gave me everything.
01:16The tension continued to rise as the big race, the Dubai World Cup, inched nearer.
01:20The World Cup race is a distance of 2,000 meters and takes place on the dirt track.
01:25The winning horse takes home a jaw-dropping 10 million U.S. dollars for his team.
01:29The action was intense out of the gate until the final leg which saw legendary horse, California Chrome,
01:34pull away from the pack and claim his first victory here in Dubai.
01:38Triple crown winning jockey, Victor Espinosa, came second last year here in Dubai
01:42and was determined not to be denied this year, winning the race with a new Mayden track record.
01:46With this victory, California Chrome becomes the world's richest horse.
01:51Most of the times I always have a goal in life.
01:54Dreams sometimes happen, sometimes not for me.
01:57But my goal after winning the triple crown, my goal is to win the Dubai World Cup
02:03because I never really have the chance to win.
02:07I was second last year and I was not very fun.
02:11But today I was ready and it took me one year in my goals but I got it done today.
02:17The 2016 Dubai World Cup delivered stunning action from both ends of the card,
02:21complemented by an amazing fireworks display,
02:24proving once again why this is the biggest and most attractive race in the world for fans and competitors alike.
