00:00When it comes to cars, Dubai is no stranger to the weird and the wonderful.
00:08It's perfectly normal to walk past rows of Italian supercars and luxury SUVs.
00:13They really are ten a penny.
00:15But if you're the kind of person that's really into their cars, you want to see the real
00:18stuff.
00:19Where the cars of today came from, then you need to come down to the Emirates Classic
00:23Car Festival here at Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
00:25One of the criteria is to have at least an original car, paintings of the years where
00:32the car was built, not necessarily modern paintings with metallic colors which are not
00:37suitable for these cars.
00:40The history is important.
00:42If someone can provide, and should eventually provide, the history by pictures of how it
00:48was restored in case of restoration.
00:50So those are among the main criteria.
00:52While the interior, of course, is as important, and then definitely if the car is running.
00:57What have we got here?
00:591969 MG B. Wow.
01:02Now this was one of the last cars made by MG that featured the chrome bumper before
01:06American laws came in that say all cars had to have a plastic front bumper, which of course
01:10looked much uglier.
01:12They also said that headlights had to be a certain height off the ground.
01:16So what MG did was, as opposed to redesigning the front, they simply put blocks on the suspension,
01:21which ruined the car's handling.
01:23So it just lumbered around in the corners.
01:25This Ferrari 308 GT4 was actually built and designed to fit Enzo Ferrari himself.
01:31However, it was to be a mixed honor as the car's name, Dino, was actually given to it
01:36after Enzo Ferrari's son was tragically killed.
01:39Back in the 1970s, European motorists would wake up to a soundtrack of flat batteries
01:43and cars that wouldn't start.
01:45However, when this came along, the Datsun, that opened everyone's eyes to the Japanese's
01:50penchant for reliability.
01:52Now if you're from Britain and you're wondering where the 70 mile an hour speed limit came
01:55from, here's your reason.
01:57The AC Cobra.
01:59Back in the 1960s, the engineers wanted to see how fast it could go.
02:02So what they were doing was taking it up the M1 motorway late at night.
02:06The government was so enraged by this, it compelled them to impose the speed limit.
02:10The Emirates Classic Car Festival was taking place between March 24 and March 27 at Mohammed
02:15bin Rashid Boulevard, downtown Dubai.
02:18The city's free and the cars are on display all day and all night.
02:21It's something that no petrolhead should miss out on.
