00:00Step 1.
00:15Rolling out the fondant.
00:17Take a big bit of fondant and roll it into a tight ball.
00:21Make sure there are no cracks in them or your petals are going to split.
00:25You're going to cut out 6 petals from this fondant, so make sure you have enough.
00:29If you're working on a tabletop at home, it's best to sprinkle just a little bit of corn
00:33flour so the fondant doesn't stick to the table.
00:37Place the ball on the table and flatten it a bit with the palm of your hand and then
00:40begin to roll it out from the center, moving towards the edges.
00:45Roll it out thin, but not too thin that it begins to tear easily.
00:49Step 2.
00:51Make your flower petals.
00:52It is now time to cut out your petals with your cake ring cutter.
00:55We're going to make roses.
00:57Place the cutter with the thin edge on a corner of the rolled out fondant and press down.
01:02Shake it a bit to separate it from the rest of the fondant.
01:05Make 6 of these.
01:07Once done, place them into the plastic that you've got and let it rest for a minute or
01:13two.
01:14Now take your thumb and press down on the edge of a petal and run it around the edge
01:19until you've pressed down a semi-circle.
01:22This is the top of your rose petal.
01:25In case you want to make a few tulips to add some variety, roll out a couple of petals
01:30with white fondant like I've done here.
01:32Step 3.
01:33Shape your flowers.
01:34Take a petal out of the plastic bag and from one end of the flattened semi-circle, begin
01:39to roll it nice and tight.
01:42Make sure it's as tight as you can go.
01:45Take a second petal, make sure it's at the same height as the first petal and from where
01:50you ended rolling the first one, begin rolling the second one.
01:55Roll it right around.
01:56You can tip the top of the petal outwards very little.
02:00This will ensure that the next petal won't stick to the last one.
02:03Repeat these until all 6 petals are done.
02:05Then begin to pinch around the bottom of your rose to shape it and cut the excess off with
02:10your pair of scissors.
02:11For the tulips, take one white petal and twist it around a cone shaped tool like I've done
02:16here.
02:17You can also do this by twisting it around your thumb.
02:20For the little bits sticking out of the top of the flower, also known as the stigma, roll
02:25a bit of your fondant between your palm and the table and stick the thicker end inside
02:31your tulip.
02:32It's that easy.
02:33Step 4.
02:34Creating the leaves.
02:35Roll out some green fondant and with your leaf stencil, press down and move it around
02:40a bit like you did for the petals.
02:42This will cut out your leaves for you.
02:43To create a bit of a border for your cake, take a bit of fondant, whichever colour you
02:47think best and roll it between both your palms until you have a snake-like figure that
02:52is long enough to go right around the bottom of your cake.
02:55Place it around and cut off the extra bit.
02:58Then press down with a scallop or texturing tool.
03:01If you don't have this, you could even pinch the fondant according to how you like it.
03:04Step 5.
03:05Decorating.
03:06Now, before you begin chucking everything on top of your cake, take a step back and
03:10imagine the finished product in your head first.
03:12Do you want a centre arrangement or do you want a side arrangement?
03:16When you've decided what you want it to look like, take your brush, dip it in some water
03:21and lightly dab this spot on the cake you want to place your flower on.
03:25This will help it to stick.
03:27Do this with all the leaves, flowers and anything else you want to stick on there.
03:31Once you're done, you can tell everybody how easy it was.
