00:00We have a lot of cats to adopt.
00:06We have adoption days like this at least once a month, although we do have a few extra ones
00:10coming up over the next couple of months.
00:13So adoption days you can come and meet them, but also our foster families are generally
00:17very happy to have you come and visit, meet a cat in a home environment and see whether
00:22you bond, basically anytime, anywhere.
00:27One of our main focuses, as well as adopting out cats, which is great, every cat that finds
00:32a home we're super happy about, but one of our main focuses is also our trap, neuter
00:38and release program.
00:39What that is, is we go out there with a few core volunteers who will go out, find colonies
00:46of cats that are living in a park, in a school, in a business, and we will take them, trap
00:55them, take them into a vet, have them neutered, health checked, and then if it's a safe environment
00:59where they were living we have them released again so that they can live without breeding
01:05and adding to the problems already.
01:07Cats are very clean animals and they automatically go to litter trays, even when they're little
01:14kittens they'll go to litter trays.
01:16They're so welcoming when you come home at night from a hard day's work and they just
01:21relax you, it's great.
01:23Having cats, I feel, is very therapeutic.
01:27I'm single so I work all day, when I get home at night there's somebody to greet me, all
01:33three come and greet me at the door, they're companionship, they play with me, they sleep
01:39on my bed at night, it's great having animals.
01:42And also I think that animals represent who you are as a person as well, if you're kind
01:47to animals, generally you're a kind person.
01:51Cats are very independent, so most of them are perfectly happy to be on their own during
01:54the day while you're out at work, but when you come home most of them are quite happy
01:59to shower you with love and affection and that's where you can really get to enjoy the
02:04time you spend with your cat.
02:06There's lots of animals out there that need our help and even if you can't adopt, even
02:10just foster for a little while to just give them a bit of relief or help us with our trap
02:16neutering release programme would be fantastic.
02:19Play with your cats, treat them like they're your children because they will love you no
02:24matter what you do.
02:26Cats always just love you.
02:32I work at the RAC Animal Welfare Centre since December 2010 and I'm the manager.
02:39On average we have 15 cats looking for a home and we have 15 dogs looking for a home.
02:46All our animals, both cats and dogs, they are all fully vaccinated, they are microchipped
02:52and they are de-sexed and they have been health checked regularly by our vets and these vet
02:59nurses.
03:00So you are quite certain that when you adopt an animal from us it's a healthy animal.
03:05They have been de-wormed and de-fleed regularly.
03:09The cats, we make sure that we socialise them plenty, so we put them together with other
03:15cats in the room, but they learn to live with other cats which increases their chances
03:20of finding a home and the dogs, we do a basic training programme with them.
03:25So all the dogs get walked twice a day and then once a day they get to play with other
03:30dogs for the socialising and they also get training.
03:33So all of our animal caretakers, they can handle dogs, they can teach them how to sit,
03:39go down, stay, wait.
03:41So all the basic commands are known to our dogs and even more importantly they have learned
03:47how to deal with people.
03:50If you want to adopt one of our animals, we want them to go to a home.
03:54So if they get adopted now, it needs to be for the rest of their lives.
03:58They are really your best friend in life, they are always happy when you come home.
04:03I think for children it's very good to grow up with a living being in the home that they
04:08have to care for.
04:09I think it makes them better people and I have three dogs myself.
04:15My house feels very, very empty when my dogs are not there, it's just, like I said, they
04:19give you a lot of love, they are friends for life, so I wouldn't be without them.
