00:12Day on December 2nd.
00:15It was on this day in 1971 that the United Arab Emirates was formed.
00:21The birth of the union is celebrated every year with hoisting of the national flag, colourful
00:26parades, traditional dances and fireworks.
00:30This year, the national flag of the UAE was hoisted up the world's 7th largest flagpole
00:36on Flag Island by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the UAE
00:42Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah.
00:46Colourful car parades in Abu Dhabi allowed residents to express their passion for the
00:51UAE by decorating their cars in national colours.
00:56Dubai streets came to life with parades and lively performances.
01:12In the evening, the Almazah's waterfront gave a fitting finale to the celebrations
01:17with dancing fountains and spectacular fireworks.
