00:00This event, which two years ago was such a seminal moment in philanthropy, when Dubai
00:16turned around and gave a million dollars for Pakistan's rehabilitation and flood relief.
00:20And this year it's about Syria, the 2.2 billion refugees, the amount of money you raise, no
00:26amount of money you raise is going to be enough.
00:28This is the place to come because I have actually seen the remarkable philanthropy of people
00:32out here.
00:33I really think that Dubai Cares and Oxfam just nail it every single time.
00:36I always put myself in the donor's place and say, what is it that I want to get from this?
00:42And it's not, they're giving, but they should be getting something.
00:45And if I can understand that if the people who ask me for money assure me this, an intangible
00:50something, then I will give.
00:53You can never appeal to people's wallets to give.
00:55You have to appeal to their hearts.
00:57And everyone is born with a heart and everyone wants to give.
01:00When Shivani asked me to come and I said, definitely this year, last year I was supposed
01:07to come for them.
01:08I couldn't.
01:09I have to auction one painting out there.
01:12And hopefully I can do a good job and get them enough money for a good cause.
01:18It means so much to me because also I'm representing Aeon and Aeon has given a lot of prizes tonight
01:23or things to auction off, which hopefully are going to raise a lot of money.
01:26And I'm really proud of that.
01:27I'm proud to be part of a franchise that's so supportive of charity and of Oxfam because
01:32they have for many, many years and that means a lot to me.
01:34I'm proud that we can use the celebrity in this and the Oxfam, I mean the Dubai Film
01:40Festival to raise the money to help the two million refugees that have been displaced
01:45from the Syrian conflagration.
01:47I'm deeply honored that I was asked to be here to host and to get people open to giving
01:55to this really important event.
01:57Oxfam has a really shallow overhead.
01:59Great deal of their money goes directly into helping people, doing it in a sustainable
02:04way.
02:05A lot of it is empowering people to be able to take care of themselves.
02:10It's the old fish in the pole story.
02:12What they're going to do tonight will go into effect immediately tomorrow.
02:15They're already established there and they're already working there.
