00:11As many as 10,000 people are believed to have died in one Philippine city alone when one

00:15of the worst storms on record sent giant sea waves washing away homes, schools and airport

00:21buildings.

00:23Ferocious winds ravaged several central islands, burying people under tons of debris.

00:28Typhoon Haiyan hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippine archipelago and barreled through

00:33six eastern and central islands before exiting into the South China Sea, packing ferocious

00:39winds of 235 km per hour.

00:42On Leyte Island, the regional police chief said there were about 10,000 deaths, mostly

00:47by drowning and from collapsed buildings.

00:50Meanwhile, more than 600,000 people were evacuated as the typhoon veered towards Vietnam.

00:56The storm is expected to strike on Monday morning after changing course.
