00:11The State Security Court on Tuesday convicted 69 out of 94 Emirati suspects accused of plotting
00:17to overthrow the government. Presiding Judge Falah al-Hajri said 25 of the suspects, mostly
00:23women, were acquitted of all charges. 56 people were sentenced to 10 years in jail. 8 people
00:28were sentenced in absentia to 15 years, and 5 were handed a prison sentence between 3
00:34to 7 years. The court ordered the seizure of some of the suspects' money, buildings
00:38and property used to establish and finance the group. The accused were charged with being
00:43members of or having links with the band Al-Islah Society that is affiliated to Egypt's Muslim
00:49Brotherhood and plotting to overthrow the government.
00:52Turmoil and uncertainty deepened in Egypt after its defiant President Mohamed Morsi
00:57insisted he will not step down in the face of demands by millions of protesters. Morsi
01:02vowed to protect his constitutional legitimacy with his life. However, state-run Al-Haram
01:07newspaper reported it is expected that Morsi will either resign or be sacked by armed forces
01:13roadmap which is due to set in today after a UAE 7pm deadline passes. Al-Haram said the
01:19army roadmap would set up a three-member presidential council chaired by head of Supreme Constitutional
01:25Court. Meanwhile, overnight clashes between Morsi's supporters and opponents left at
01:30least 23 people dead.
01:32An unmanned US aircraft fired four missiles at a house in northwest Pakistan early today,
01:38killing 16 suspected militants. The strikes sparked a swift condemnation by Pakistan which
01:43said the strikes are a violation of its sovereignty. The targeted militants were believed to be
01:48from the Afghan Haqqani Network.
01:51The Indian government says an equity sale deal between Etihad and Jet Airways is still
01:56under examination. The Indian Prime Minister's office issued a statement rebutting reports
02:01about objections to the deal raised by senior Indian opposition leaders. Reports of rifts
02:06within the government on the India-UAE bilateral air services agreement and the Jet-Etihad
02:11equity proposal are factually incorrect and baseless, the PMO said.
