00:00On this day in space.
00:04On February 8, 1974, the last crew of the Skylab Space Station returned to Earth.
00:09Skylab was the first and only American space station, and it supported three crewed missions.
00:14The third and final mission lasted 84 days.
00:18During their time inside the orbiting workshop, the three-person crew observed the sun, watched a comet fly by,
00:23and participated in several medical studies.
00:26The crew also performed the first-ever strike in space by cutting off communications with NASA,
00:30and they became overwhelmed with their workload.
00:33They ended up doing more work than what was planned before their capsule splashed out in the Pacific Ocean,
00:37marking the end of the Skylab program.
00:40And that's what happened on this day in space.
