00:00The next day, rice from the NFA can be purchased for P35 per kilo
00:06following the declaration of the Food Security Emergency by the Department of Agriculture.
00:10Saksi, by Bernadette Reyes.
00:16P58 per kilo is the maximum suggested retail price for rice today.
00:21But the world price is going down in the world market, so it will go down as well.
00:25Starting tomorrow, P55 per kilo will be the maximum suggested retail price for 5% locally imported rice here in Metro Manila.
00:34When February 15 ends, its implementation will be done nationwide.
00:40In the next few days or weeks, rice from the NFA or the National Food Authority
00:45can be purchased from the Kadiwa Centers or some families.
00:49The NFA's impacted rice should really be a buffer stock
00:53that can be exported if there is a storm and other emergencies.
00:56But because of the Food Security Emergency on rice,
01:00it can be exported and sold for P33 per kilo to local governments,
01:05some companies controlled by the government, and other government agencies.
01:10When sold to buyers, it will be P35 per kilo.
01:15P35 per kilo is a big help for us.
01:19P35 per kilo is a big help for buyers.
01:22But the NFA is saying that it's a loss.
01:25Initially, the recommendation was P38 per kilo.
01:28But now, because it's a necessity to release the stocks and create space,
01:35it's better to lower it to P33 per kilo to LGUs and then P35 per kilo to the public.
01:42We really need to do this to control and lower the price
01:47so that we can vacate our stocks so that the NFA can buy the harvest from the farmers.
01:53But according to a group of farmers,
01:56to be sold for P35 per kilo, the sale of rice will be lowered.
02:01The equivalent rice price will be about P17 to P18 per kilo.
02:06At that price, maybe half of the farmers will lose money.
02:10It distracts people from the real solution, which is to go after the profiteers.
02:17Why don't they do that?
02:19The food security emergency can be resolved if the price of rice is lowered.
02:24If the price of rice is lowered,
02:26some products are expected to be priced higher starting this February.
02:31Some brands of sardines, canned meat, evaporated milk, Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal,
02:38as well as candles and batteries.
02:40The Department of Trade and Industry has allowed some manufacturers to raise prices,
02:45but this will not exceed 10%, said DTI.
02:49This week, the Suggested Retail Price Guide will be released to serve as a guide to buyers.
02:55Consumers will see an increase in the next few weeks.
02:58According to the Department of Trade and Industry,
03:01one of the main reasons for manufacturers to raise their prices is the rising cost of raw materials.
03:07Even if more than 60 products raise their prices,
03:10more will not.
03:13That's why buyers don't know how to budget,
03:17they will just adjust again.
03:19Maybe we will reduce the price of snacks
03:23so that we can provide the other things we need to buy.
03:27We usually buy large sardines.
03:29Now, I will just buy one sardine.
03:31Then I will just make a soup.
03:33We will just saute it.
03:35I will add eggs.
