236 days of negotiations to form a government. Since Monday, Belgium finally has a fully
00:10
fledged federal executive. The coalition is headed by a Flemish pro-independence Prime
00:15
Minister. To govern, Bart de Wever will be relying on his N-VA party, as well as the
00:20
Flemish socialists, the French-speaking liberals and the Christian Democrats of both language
00:25
communities. However, this time, the government is strongly leaning right, which makes it
00:30
an unusually monocolour government for the Belgians.
00:55
Paradoxically, Bart de Wever has built his political career against the Belgian federal
01:09
government, which he is now in charge of. The Flemish leader heads a coalition that
01:14
leans strongly to the right, a shift that is also reflected in the government agreement.
01:19
The first axes of the program are two things. On the one hand, to lead a right-wing socio-economic
01:29
policy, and on the other hand, to send a message on immigration, which is roughly the tenet
01:37
of many governments in Europe today. To close the migratory issue, to close the issue of
01:44
asylum. Bart de Wever's speech should resonate with most of his European counterparts, whom
01:53
the Belgian Prime Minister met a few hours after being sworn in.
