A dog owner has been jailed after his rottweilers attacked a pensioner, leading to him losing an arm and leg.

00:00started about ten past nine, I normally, as normal, took the dog out for a walk.

00:06Went up the road and there's a great big tree, it's about, I was about a meter

00:13you away from that and I heard this rustling noise and I thought, what's that?

00:17Rustling noise. And all of a sudden these two dogs come round.

00:22Block wilders. And I thought, oh God. Because we come face to face, there's nowhere to go.

00:28I remembered them attacking me but I don't remember going over and I don't

00:37know, I might have hit my head, knocked myself out. I don't know. I have been told

00:43that I was dragged a little way along. I don't remember no more until I woke up

00:50in Brighton Hospital. That was a few weeks later. I mean, there's so many people

00:56I've been told come to my aid. I can't thank everybody enough really for what they've

01:01done. You know, especially the man I'm going to meet, which I've never met before.

01:06I'm looking forward to meeting him.

01:08Nice to meet you at last.

01:10And you.

01:12Oh, no.

01:13No, I mean that.

01:16I've just done what anyone else would have done.

01:34She was looking at me and she was shaking, you know. And this was the first time I saw her.

01:43The thing is, she didn't run away.

01:50Obviously I must have let her go at some point, but I don't remember.

01:54I'm glad she's not injured anyway.

01:57Lovely dog she is.

01:58But that was the second thing you said to me was, you know, how's my dog?

02:02And I said, she's fine. She's in the silver car.

02:05You're a very, very, very strong man to come through that.

02:20I lost my middle...

02:21They tried to save my finger on my left hand, but they couldn't.

02:26So I had to lose that.

02:28And this arm is badly damaged.

02:32They saved that, as you can see with the skin graft.

02:35Unfortunately, they couldn't save my leg.

02:38I lost my leg here, quite away above the knee, as you can see.

02:44I lost that leg.

02:47And this leg here was fairly badly damaged.

02:53As you can see, this is the skin graft.

02:56They took it from here and put it onto the...

02:58That's where I had the damage.

03:01And it's right on the bone and the tendon.

03:04And it's took all this time to get to where it is now.

03:08I have been advised it may take five years before it's all gone.

03:13And I lost my right arm, as you can see.

03:16They've done well.

03:18They saved that just below the elbow.

03:21And that's the injuries.

03:23And I had a few bites here and a few bites there.

03:26One little bit of earhole gone up here.

03:29But that's nothing.

03:31But that's it.

03:33I had to learn to do everything with the left hand.

03:36And I don't know if anybody's ever tried.

03:39It's difficult, especially writing.

03:42I still can't really write my name, but I'm getting there.

03:45I do it now and again, just practice.

03:48And I can't make a fist.

03:50That's as far as I can get at the moment is there.

03:53But it's good. It's strong.

03:55I can use a knife, a fork or whatever like that.

03:58And I've learnt to adapt.

04:00But even some of the people in the hospital say,

04:03look, we get people here and they just accept it.

04:07But we get someone like you.

04:09You've come in here.

04:11She said, how have you got so far in so little time?

04:14We don't know.

04:16It's been determination on your part.

04:19And other people see that and it spurs them on.

04:22And I think to myself, oh, well, good.

04:24I'm doing something useful.

04:26I've always got a smile on my face.

04:28I'm never miserable, hardly, am I?

04:31Is that true?

04:33No, I'm not. Come on, be fair.

04:3590% of the time I've got a smile on my face and I'm positive.

04:41Listen, I get down at times.

04:44But everybody does.

04:48It's not just me.

04:50I get down at times.

04:52But then I think to myself, no, I'm not having this.

04:55And I get out.

04:57I know at times like that I get sentimental.

04:59I do have a little bit of a tear.

05:01But, hey, I pull myself out of it and carry on.
