About 35,000 feet over California’s Mojave Desert, the XB-1 became the first privately funded airplane to break the sound barrier during a test flight.

Chuck Yeager was the first human to break the sound barrier in 1947. Since then supersonic speeds have been routine amongst military aircraft, but was only commercially available with Concorde. Since its retirement 20 years ago, is it time for another supersonic boom?
