00:00The Department of Migrant Workers will continue to consult President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and the DFA

00:07for the call to implement the deployment ban in Kuwait

00:11due to the death of some OFWs.

00:19There is no ban to be implemented for skilled and household workers in Kuwait.

00:25This was clarified by Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the DFA

00:31in a press release in Quezon City.

00:33But he clarified that this is not yet a final decision

00:37because the Department of Migrant Workers or DMW-DFA and President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. will continue to consult on this.

00:46I'm not endorsing it, but I'm not saying absolutely not that we will do it.

00:50Recently, Senator Rafi Tulfo, chairman of the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers,

00:57called for the implementation of the deployment ban in the country

01:00followed by the new death of some OFWs in the country due to corruption.

01:09According to de Vega, what they are looking at now is to tighten the requirements of the employers who will get OFWs in the country.

01:18He also insisted that this does not mean that the OFWs are being ignored.

01:24He wanted the long-term solution to give protection to OFWs in the country.

01:33DFA will defer to DMW.

01:37But we want any ban to be well thought of.

01:43Because if we ban, it should be something that we're sure of that we will not suddenly be victims.

01:53He also assured that justice will be given to the harassment of Julie V. Ranara, Daphne Nakalaban, and Jenny Alvarado.

02:02As of now, according to the DMW,

02:04more than 260,000 OFWs in Kuwait are suspected and most of them are domestic helpers.

02:12It should be noted that the deployment ban was already implemented in 2020 and it was lifted in 2023

02:21after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was arrested by Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Saba.
