00:00Welcome back to Look Around London. Today we're at Buckingham Palace, the official residence of
00:05the British monarch. Despite its grandeur, Buckingham Palace isn't just for royalty.
00:09Each summer the stateroom doors open to the public, giving a glimpse into royal life.
00:14The palace sits on what was once a mulberry plantation, an ambitious but unsuccessful
00:18attempt by King James I to produce English silk. The 39-acre gardens are a hidden sanctuary,
00:25featuring a lake, tennis court and even a helipad. But did you know that the lake is
00:29home to rare birds, including pelicans, gifted by the Russian ambassador in 1664?
00:34For those curious about the famous Changing of the Guard, it's a spectacle of precision
00:38and pageantry which takes place at 11am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays,
00:44weather permitting. If you're planning a visit, the nearest tube stations are Green Park,
00:48High Park Corner and Victoria.
