Slovak PM Fico accuses opposition of 'coup attempt' following protests and no-confidence motion

Slovakia's Moscow-friendly prime minister has faced accusations by the country's largest opposition party of trying to take the country out of the EU.

00:00Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico accused opposition of attempting to organize a coup

00:07amid escalating demonstrations against his supposed pro-Moscow stance.

00:13During his address to the Slovakian Parliament, Fico also rejected claims about the country's

00:18alleged change of foreign policy orientation and reaffirmed membership of both the European

00:24Union and NATO.

00:27We see a structure that wants to misuse these meetings, especially possible meetings with

00:36the security forces of the state, to escalate the tension even more, to become even more

00:45aggressive.

00:46Fico's comments come as protests continue to erupt in Slovakia over his ties to Russia.

00:52These protests started last December after he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin

00:57in Moscow.

00:58Fico has also faced accusations by the country's largest opposition party of trying to take

01:03the country out of the EU, earlier this week surviving an attempt at a no-confidence vote.
