00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for predictions The Simpsons
00:07has made that haven't come true, but still could.
00:28For decades, humans have dreamed about colonising Mars and making a fresh start on the red planet.
00:33In 2016, The Simpsons explored this possibility in the episode, The Margian Chronicles.
00:38The family meets the company Exploration Incorporated, which plans to send people to Mars by 2026.
00:44With Lisa's passion for science, she signed up, followed by the rest, who hoped she'd
00:50Instead, the mission doesn't work out, but Lisa and Marge are shown on Mars in 2051.
01:11Exploration Incorporated is a parody of the defunct company, Mars One, which plan to colonise
01:16Mars.
01:17But, groups such as SpaceX and NASA have made many predictions and published plans to get
01:20people on the red planet in the near future.
01:38In 1997, The Simpsons showcased football in the cartridge family, leading to the citizens
01:43rioting due to boredom.
01:45However, amongst the jokes to make fans of the sport rage, there was a prediction that
01:49could at some point happen.
01:57The commercial promoting a match between Mexico and Portugal mentioned the winner would determine
02:01the best in the world, insinuating it was the FIFA World Cup final.
02:05So far, Mexico and Portugal haven't faced each other in that competition's final.
02:09Neither nation has gone further than the quarterfinals.
02:12However, they did take on each other in the third place playoff at the 2017 FIFA Confederations
02:17Cup.
02:18So, who knows, either next world cup it could come true.
02:32The English language constantly evolves.
02:34Just look at the number of words and phrases Gen Z has woven into English's tapestry
02:38with Riz and Bet in recent years.
02:46The word goodbye is believed to have been created around 1565, and is said to be a contraction
02:51of the phrase, God be with ye.
02:53Well, in the 2000 episode, Bart to the Future, where as the title suggests, we explore Bart's
02:58life when he's a 40-year-old, Nelson sends a hologram, and he finishes with his catchphrase,
03:03smell you later.
03:14Bart mentions that the expression had replaced goodbye.
03:17One day, instead of the usual remark as we leave a job interview, there's a possibility
03:21we could go with Nelsons, or another variation instead.
03:38In 1995, Bart vs Australia answered the age-old curiosity about how water drains depending
03:43on where a country is in the Earth's hemisphere.
03:46However, while getting this information, Bart causes an Australian child to rack up a large
03:50phone bill.
03:59This eventually leads to the Simpsons getting punished in Australia, with the threat of
04:03Bart getting booted in the derriere.
04:09In Australia, there's no such corporal punishment like this to children in a courthouse.
04:13However, never say never.
04:15One day, the Aussies could legalise this method of dealing with law-breaking kids.
04:19After all, parents are allowed to use reasonable force when disciplining children at home.
04:24But, hopefully, this corporal punishment in court doesn't come to pass.
04:40Whenever the Simpsons does an episode that explores a possible future, it's a smorgasbord
04:44of correct predictions.
04:45Take the 1995 episode, Lisa's Wedding.
04:48In that, video calling and smartwatches were spotted.
04:58But there is one that hasn't happened, yet.
05:00When Lisa met her boyfriend's family in England, we see London's Big Ben briefly.
05:05However, unlike the traditional analogue clock it has today, it's been replaced with a
05:08digital one that needs to be reset.
05:14In the real world, UK, there have been April Fools jokes about Big Ben going digital, causing
05:19quite a bit of outrage.
05:20However, others have argued that since some children struggle with telling the time on
05:24analogue clocks, it might be a good idea to modernise the iconic monument.
05:42In 2007, the franchise dipped its toe into the film market by releasing the Simpsons
05:46movie.
05:47The premise involves Springfield Lake becoming polluted from citizens using it to dispose
05:51of garbage.
05:55However, after taking steps to reduce it, Homer ruins it all by dumping his pig's
06:03waste silo into it.
06:08This environmental disaster caused the US government to cover the town in a large dome
06:12to protect the rest of the country.
06:14So far, that hasn't happened in real life, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
06:18Having already witnessed smaller environmental catastrophes, some scientists predict we could
06:22see larger-scale ones in the future, although there's no word yet if a dome could be used
06:27to contain them.
06:35In 2001's New Kids on the Blech, Bart's troublemaking catches the eye of a music producer,
06:48who signs him to the band Party Posse alongside his other friends.
06:57During their rise to stardom with technology covering their lack of musical skills, the
07:01group released their first music video, Drop Da Bomb.
07:04During it, a group of women repeats the mysterious phrase, Evanetniyazh.
07:15Lisa, the ever-bright spark, discovers it's a subliminal message to get viewers to join
07:23the Navy.
07:24At the moment, subliminal messaging in commercials is banned in some countries and restricted
07:28in the US, but could music be used to mind-control people?
07:32Hmm, maybe.
07:33Local leaders have used music to influence, and the US military has used it to punish
07:37prisoners, so who knows?
07:56Skynet could happen.
07:57In 1994's Itchy and Scratchy Land, the Simpsons clan went to the Itchy and Scratchy amusement
08:01park.
08:03After Cletus uses the flash on the camera, one of the robot mascots begins acting out.
08:13This leads to others kick-starting a rebellion and attempting to cut down the human race.
08:17Thankfully, they were easily dispatched.
08:19However, this scenario is a possibility for the future.
08:22After all, with the rise of artificial intelligence and the lack of restrictions, there's potential
08:27for the Terminator franchise to come to life, causing robots and machines to attempt to
08:31wipe us all out.
08:37Lovely.
08:38However, until AI can consistently perfect images of human hands, we're safe.
08:43For now, at least.
08:56The Simpsons has been praised for seemingly calling Donald Trump's US presidency, as
09:00well as the challenge from Kamala Harris.
09:02Yet, in 2016's Treehouse of Horror number 27, the series made one that has yet to happen.
09:07With the family enjoying Halloween, Homer, dressed as a makeshift bender from Futurama,
09:12jokes about making things early and showcases his sticker for Ivanka Trump 2028.
09:19Seemingly, the show creators are guessing that the President-elect's daughter could
09:28be the next in line for the country's top job.
09:31Ivanka has already served in Trump's first administration, after all.
09:34At the time of making this video, she hasn't yet announced running for 2028, but watch
09:39this space.

10:07In 1992's Itchy & Scratchy the Movie, Bart spends the episode desperately attempting
10:11to watch the film about his beloved cat and mouse.
10:14In the end, in the far future of 2032, when he and Homer decide to finally see it, we
10:19spot someone operating a hover car.
10:22For decades, these vehicles that float just above the ground have been a fascination of
10:25science fiction media.
10:27To date, none have ever been built commercially, but we did come close.
10:31In the 1950s, Ford showcased their concept hover car, the Leather Car Mach 1, which used
10:36pressurised air instead of wheels.
10:39With a modern-day focus on vehicles that can fly, maybe this dream is more likely to happen.
10:47So which cartoon invention do you wish would come true in the real world?
