Minister rules out UK joining pan-Europe trade agreement

Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook has confirmed the UK is not looking to join the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention, which enables tariff-free trade across Europe and parts of North Africa. While dismissing the arrangement, he reiterated the Government's aim for a "closer relationship with our European partners" in post-Brexit trade.   Report by Covellm. 00:04I mean, we are determined to ensure in general terms a closer relationship with our European partners,

00:10whether that's in economic terms, but also importantly in terms of security and defence.

00:15It's absolutely essential that we have a close working relationship.

00:18As I said, while we've got no plans to join that particular arrangement at the moment,

00:21we will review it and see whether it's in the national interest for us to explore it further.
