00:00Basically, since this incident started, I am Dr. Shuja Qadri, Head of the Department

00:15of Community Medicine and Epidemiologist.

00:18So Medical College was given the responsibility of doing the surveillance of this area since

00:23the beginning of the incident and simultaneously to give an expert opinion, do a detailed epidemiological

00:31investigation to rule out what is the probable cause of this death.

00:36So once we started our investigation under our worthy principal, Prof. Dr. A. S. Bhatia

00:42Sir, we made a team of healthcare people where I was heading the team and we went to the

00:48area.

00:49So our epidemiological investigation, there are different steps involved in the epidemiological

00:55investigation.

00:56So we did active surveillance, we did passive surveillance, we saw the clinical features,

01:02the cases whose deaths, we did verbal autopsies, we saw the food parameters, we saw their water,

01:09we saw their sanitation, we saw their hygiene, we saw their housing condition, we saw their

01:15environment.

01:16So as a preliminary investigation, as of now, our epidemiological finding has reached this

01:22conclusion and the reports that we have available, it is not a bacterial, it is not a viral,

01:30it is not a protozoa, it is not a zoonotic disease.

01:33Why I am saying this as an expert because the preliminary reports which are available

01:38with us from the premier institutes shows no virus, no bacteria, no protozoa, no zoonotic

01:45disease in the samples of the patients.

01:49So only left is that is toxin.

01:57So only one thing which is left after ruling out bacteria, viral, protozoa, zoonotic disease,

02:04the clinical features of the patients and the epidemiological study, it coincides with

02:31the availability of a toxin.
