00:00We're looking at Venezuela very strongly. It's a country I know very well for a lot
00:07of reasons and it was a great country 20 years ago and now it's a mess.
00:12U.S. President Donald Trump as he spoke with the media at the White House while signing
00:16a record number of executive orders on his first day in office. Trinidad and Tobago has
00:21enjoyed long-standing relations with both the United States and Venezuela. Progress
00:26for the deal for the supply of natural gas from Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago occurred
00:31in part due to the lifting of certain U.S. sanctions following negotiations between the
00:36government of Trinidad and Tobago led by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, the administration
00:41led by Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, and the administration led by the now former
00:46U.S. President Joe Biden. President Trump made no mention of the issue of natural gas
00:53from Venezuela when he spoke with the media at the White House on Monday as he responded
00:58to a question about the United States having recognized Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner
01:04of the elections in Venezuela held on July 28th of 2024. The Associated Press had reported
01:10that Venezuela's Supreme Court backed President Nicolas Maduro's claims that he won the presidential
01:16election in Venezuela and said voting tallies published online showing he lost by a landslide
01:23were forged. Just 10 days before President Trump took his oath of office, the U.S. government
01:29announced it had increased its award for the arrest of President Maduro to 25 million U.S.
01:34dollars under the Biden administration.
01:37Changing power, are you still committed with Maduro leaving power in Venezuela?
01:41Well, we're going to find out about that too because we're going to probably stop buying
01:44oil from Venezuela. We don't need their oil.
01:46Another embargo like the first term?
01:48Well, it could be, but we don't want to buy it. We don't have to buy their oil. We have
01:51plenty of oil for ourselves.
01:52President Trump?
01:53That'll change Venezuela quite a bit.
01:57President Trump recently warned President Maduro not to harm opposition leaders in Venezuela.
02:02The government of Trinidad and Tobago has said it is looking forward to working with
02:06the Trump administration on matters of mutual interest.
