00:00Council tax bills in England are set to rise significantly this year adding further financial

00:08strain to households already grappling with the rising cost of living. While most local

00:13authorities are restricted to a 5% increase, those with social care responsibilities have

00:19been granted permission to raise bills by much higher. This flexibility stems from government

00:25recognition of the mounting pressures on social care services. However, these substantial

00:31increases come at a time when households are already facing significant inflationary pressures,

00:38including soaring energy prices, rising interest rates and increased food costs. This double

00:44whammy of increased living costs and higher council tax bills is likely to exacerbate

00:50financial hardship for many residents across our area.
