00:00She is as all American as apple pie and McDonald's and she will do what it takes for the US economy
00:10and the US government.
00:12Trump's talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping, his talk was quite controversial.
00:17Yes, no, it has raised a lot of eyebrows, not only in India, we have all kinds of Indians
00:23for all kinds of reasons, same and not so same reasons for which they left Trump.
00:28Was the Indian threat was an indirect threat to India or are Modi and Trump still gonna
00:32have that diplomatic friendship relations?
00:35The relationship between India and US has been one of the best under Joe Biden.
00:40Sir, if we talk about the India-US relations in the upcoming Trump administration, we know
00:49that India and US had like quite a good relations, but looking at the Indian-Americans people
00:55who are in Trump's cabinet this time and also JD Vance's wife Usha Vance is a very
01:00big highlight in India since Trump started running for the office because she is also
01:04an Indian-American.
01:05So what do you think, how is Trump administration gonna have relations with India in the upcoming
01:10days?
01:11There is no such thing as an Indian-American when it comes to somebody who is holding office
01:15in the US.
01:16The person holding the office is a 100% American and he or she will be solely pursuing the
01:23interests of the United States and its government and its territories and there will be no sentimental,
01:29there might be cultural affinity, she might like a particular dish from Andhra Pradesh
01:32or something.
01:33Or might look like one.
01:34Yes, or look like one or like the handicrafts from Andhra, there is a different thing.
01:38But she is as all American as apple pie and McDonalds and she will do what it takes for
01:44the US economy and the US government.
01:47So that's the part of Indian-American which we say is not gonna benefit India in any way.
01:53Yes, now the interesting thing is when Trump came, a lot of Indians liked Trump and there
01:58were some very weird reasons for liking Trump.
02:01There are people in India who worship Trump.
02:02There is a chap in Andhra Pradesh who's got a temple for Trump.
02:05He worships him because his hair is orange and he thinks he is a divine messenger in
02:09the world.
02:10So we have all kinds of Indians for all kinds of reasons, same and not so same reasons for
02:16which they love Trump.
02:17But the relationship between India and US has been one of the best under Joe Biden.
02:24Joe Biden tripped up in many places in international relations including the war in Ukraine where
02:31he had provoked Russia and kind of created so much of bloodshed and loss of life and
02:35the genocide in Palestine where he supported Israel.
02:39But India-US relations had one of their best periods when Joe Biden was the president of
02:45the US first.
02:46And he's had an equally good relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
02:51I was coming to that only, sir.
02:53We say that Modi and Trump has a very good relations and they are friends, we say that.
02:58But Trump last month only gave tariff threat to BRICS countries saying something about
03:04US dollars.
03:05Now BRICS has India also as a very major part.
03:09So what do you think?
03:10This direct threat was an indirect threat to India or are Modi and Trump still gonna
03:15have that diplomatic friendship relations?
03:18See, the business of America is business.
03:22And the biggest businessman of America is Donald Trump especially as president.
03:27He made two trips to India.
03:29What happened on his first trip?
03:31The first trip he came and went, they shut down General Motors in India.
03:35Why?
03:36Because he wants goods made in America to be imported by Indians into India.
03:41The second time he came, he was batting for Harley Davidson motorcycle company.
03:47And when we wouldn't lower the tariff, he shut them down.
03:50So he will look at US business interest.
03:55That will be his primary love.
03:58Whatever his love for Modi will not be second or third.
04:01You can see he likes Modi, he likes the crowd that Modi can get from because Trump loves
04:05crowds.
04:06When Modi visits United States, we see lines of people standing in the queue.
04:13Yes, that Motera stadium and everything.
04:15But at the same time, I would like to say, he must have said many things in the run up
04:20to the election and after that.
04:23But it's not as if he's going to put tariffs on everything tomorrow or the day after.
04:28Everybody has been saying, even the US ambassador to India, who is leaving office, Eric Garcetti,
04:35he has also said that India needs to bring down tariffs.
04:39Everybody wants to get into the Indian market and they want the barriers to be lowered.
04:44And this includes the tariffs.
04:46But it is not possible for India to say lower tariffs for the US alone.
04:50If you lower it, you will lower it for everybody.
04:53So everybody will come in.
04:55Then you can't say you keep out Chinese goods, you keep out European goods or you keep out
05:00American goods.
05:01So tariff cannot be country specific.
05:03You can have certain limited agreements.
05:05So yes, he will be strong on tariffs, first thing.
05:09Second, he may not cut down on defense deals.
05:11Third, and most important thing, that one of the most important, you have to see how
05:15it plays out, is Trump is not going to support things like this Paris accord, you know, to
05:22roll back climate change and it's, you know, the harm it is doing to the ecology and things
05:27like that.
05:28And on energy.
05:29He doesn't believe that we have to put an end to using nuclear power or fossil fuels.
05:36So all this has huge implications for India.
05:39And most important thing is Trump's talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
05:45His talk…
05:46Quite controversial.
05:47Yes.
05:48No, it has raised a lot of eyebrows, not only in India, because if he's talking to the Chinese
05:53President, he probably expects that this will make India, you know, India kind of be
06:01acquires more easily to US demands.
06:04Is he backstabbing Modi then because he says on face that he's a friend of Modi, but then
06:09talking to Xi Jinping and you were saying that it could weaken India and US relationships.
06:16No, it need not weaken India.
06:17In one sense, it might actually strengthen India, because if the US is dealing with China,
06:22which is the only country in the world in the position to launch a trade war against
06:25the US, then the government of India and its political leadership can feel freer dealing
06:30with China.
06:31But…
06:32Yeah, that could be an angle.
06:33Yes, exactly.
06:34So, the question is, if Trump is talking to China, what happens to acquire them?
06:39What is its focus?
06:41And how will it affect India?
06:43Because we have a lot of issues with China, issues which we have to negotiate.
06:47If you can't stay, India and China cannot succeed if they are hostile and don't have
06:54a working relationship.
06:55And as we saw, even during the four and a half years after Galwan, trade was flourishing,
07:00it was rising year after year, throughout the four years.
07:03So, you can see that both countries are interdependent in many ways.
07:07We are very much looking forward to see what India-US relations are going to be under Trump
07:12administration.
07:18Don't miss out.
