00:00Here in Nuuk, the heart of Greenland, locals came together to talk about what's next for their island.

00:07With Greenland now in the global spotlight thanks to its strategic location and rich resources,

00:12the debate revealed a mix of pride, worries and hope of what lies ahead.

00:17Every media is about Greenland, but also remember to ask us Greenlanders,

00:23because it's us who lives here and it's about us and our land.

00:29And the most beautiful thing about Greenland is nobody can own the land.

00:34This deep sense of shared ownership resonates across Greenland.

00:38But not everyone in the room felt pride.

00:41For some, Trump's remarks and the growing attention on Greenland sparked genuine fears.

00:47My biggest fear is occupation.

00:49I'm genuinely scared that American soldiers are coming down with parachutes

00:55and American ships in our harbors and taking over our airport with their foreign airplanes.

01:03That's what scares me the most, because none of us has really tried it up here.

01:10While those fears are real for some, others in the discussion pointed out

01:14that Greenland already has agreements in place to ensure its security,

01:18which for them are a key part of its relationship with the United States.

01:22Well, it means a lot for the Americans.

01:25It means a lot for the world with regards to safety and security.

01:30And fortunately, Greenland already has a deal in place with the U.S.

01:34The last one we signed was from 2020, where we stated Greenland is vital for the defense of the United States.

01:41So that agreement we can hear is still very much forefront on the American incoming administration.

01:50So that's reassuring for us.

01:53As Greenland takes on a bigger role in geopolitics, the message from the people here in Nuuk is very clear.

02:00They want their voice to be heard.

02:03They want to preserve their identity while navigating the reality of being in the spotlight for powerful nations.
