Israel-Hamas ceasefire begins after three hour delay

Celebrations erupted across the war-ravaged territory and some Palestinians began returning to their homes in Gaza despite the delay.

00:07The deal was agreed by Israel's cabinet in a late-night session, which stretched into

00:12the early hours of Saturday morning. It comes after months of negotiations between the warring

00:17sides and mediators Qatar, Egypt and the U.S. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on

00:22Saturday that Israel is treating the ceasefire as temporary and reserves the right to return

00:27to war if necessary. 33 hostages held by Hamas are to be released in the first six-week phase

00:33in exchange for Palestinians being held in Israeli prisons. IDF forces will also move

00:39away from densely populated areas, allowing thousands of displaced Palestinians to return

00:44to what remains of their homes. Phase two is expected to see the remaining hostages

00:49released and a full Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza. Phase three will see the bodies

00:54of the remaining captives handed over to Israel in return for a reconstruction plan for Gaza.
