00:00Welsh grassroots football has been in need of change for years. While Wales perform well
00:06on the international stage, on a club level it is only really the teams that play in the
00:10English system that make a sizable profit and attract thousands of fans, while Welsh
00:15league teams are largely part-timers. The FAW is putting measures into place to fix
00:21this and want to help grow the Welsh leagues moving forward and create a better landscape
00:25for the grassroots level across the country. Part of their plans will see the English-based
00:30clubs compete in a new-look Welsh League Cup, with the prospect of competing under the Welsh
00:35flag in Europe, hoping to boost Wales' league ranking across the continent and get more
00:40Welsh teams playing in Europe. The FAW said that it could increase funding
00:46to the grassroots level by millions and help create a virtuous circle of better funding,
00:51more competition and growth in football in Wales. It now just needs the final OK from
00:56the English FA.
