00:55said Greenland is for the Greenlandic people.

00:59The semi-autonomous island is a territory of Denmark and Egil has been calling for independence.

01:05Trump said earlier this week that he wouldn't rule out using force or economic pressure

01:09in order to make Greenland a part of the United States.

01:13He said it was a matter of national security.

01:16Those comments sparked anxiety in Denmark and across Europe.

01:20The US is an ally of the EU and the leading member of NATO and many in Europe were shocked

01:26that an incoming US leader could consider using force against an ally.

01:31Greenland has a population of 57,000 and is the world's largest island.

01:42Italy's foreign minister Antonio Tajani has met with Lebanon's newly elected president

01:47Joseph Aoun in Beirut.

01:49Tajani praised Aoun's leadership, saying that a president with a very influential personality

01:54would help contribute towards peace in the region.

01:58Tajani also held a video call with officers and soldiers of the Italian battalion serving

02:02with UNIFIL.

02:04Italy maintains a contingent of over 1,000 peacekeepers in Lebanon.

02:09In December, Tajani condemned an attack on UNIFIL base which wounded four Italian soldiers.

02:15The base was hit by rockets allegedly fired by Hezbollah during a year of hostilities

02:20between the militant group and Israel, which ended with a ceasefire in late November.

02:26Tajani's visit to Lebanon comes on the same day he met with Syria's de facto leader Ahmed

02:31al-Sharaa in Damascus to coordinate various post-Assad initiatives.

02:42Officials in California say the death toll from massive wildfires burning in and around

02:47Los Angeles has risen to 11.

02:50And the tally of homes and other buildings destroyed stands at more than 10,000.

02:54LA County Sheriff Robert G. Luna said around 153,000 residents are now under evacuation

03:02orders.

03:03He also said a nighttime curfew is in place covering the Palisades and Eaton fire areas

03:08and that officers are patrolling to prevent looting.

03:12He said more than 57,000 structures remain at risk.

03:16Mayor Karen Bass said Los Angeles is preparing for more high winds forecast for next week.

03:22The blazes started on Tuesday powered by gusts from the Santa Ana winds which followed an

03:27exceptionally dry period.

03:31Officials say investigations into how the fires first broke out are still ongoing.

03:42The Biden administration has extended the stay in the U.S. for around 800,000 migrants

03:47from Venezuela and El Salvador by 18 months.

03:51They have temporary protected status, an initiative created by Congress in 1990 to prevent deportations

03:57to unsafe countries.

03:59It gives migrants authorization to work in increments of 18 months but doesn't provide

04:04a long-term path to citizenship.

04:07The Department for Homeland Security also extended TPS for more than 103,000 Ukrainians.

04:13But it faces an uncertain future under incoming President Donald Trump who tried to curtail

04:18its use during his first term.

04:20Trump suggested he would scale back the use of TPS and policies granting temporary status

04:26as he pursues mass deportations.

04:29During his first administration, Trump tried to end TPS for migrants from El Salvador,

04:34Haiti and Nicaragua but those attempts were blocked in court.
