00:17What's the most interesting thing that you learned about people in law?

00:19I've become pretty cynical, how about that?

00:20Yeah, I'm not real trusting of people anymore.

00:22I'm a criminal defense attorney, among other things.

00:24So, people tend to be mostly not truthful.

00:27Do you come from a lot of money?

00:28No.

00:29My dad died when I was four months old.

00:30My mom was a widow, worked two jobs growing up.

00:32And I got my work ethic from her.

00:34How old are you?

00:35I'm 65 now.

00:36You've got about 40 years on me, I'm 22.

00:37Whose generation works harder, yours or mine?

00:39Mine.

00:39Why is that?

00:40Because we don't complain about it.

00:41Your generation, too many people want to cut corners.

00:43Do you own your own practice?

00:44Yeah, I have for 37 plus years.

00:46So how did you stand out in law?

00:47What did you...

00:48In the 80s, it was easy.

00:49But consistently though...

00:50I found my niche doing motorcycle accidents.

00:52I started racing motorcycles when I was 8 years old.

00:54And because of that niche I told you I found, I never seemed like work.

00:57In other words, riches are in the niches.

00:59Yeah, that's a good term. It sure is.

01:01Now you've been at the table with some heavy hitters.

01:02As a lawyer, what is your best negotiation advice to anybody in business?

01:06Don't jump at the first offer, first of all.

01:08And if both people walk away pissed off, then you know you've got a good deal.

01:11Do you believe in God?

01:12I do.

01:12How important was faith to you throughout your career?

01:14Every time I had a down period, I got kicked in the ass by him.

01:17And he said, go to the gym. And I did.

01:18And they both worked.
