00:00Any New Year's resolutions for you then Fabian do you set goals for the start of the year you're that kind of person?
00:07No
00:09So I think
00:11Generally life. It's important to have goals, but especially in football the season starts always in summer
00:16so in summer, I think it's time to
00:19to set individual goals team goals and
00:23Therefore I'm not the biggest fan of doing this in the winter break
00:27Probably new year
00:28We've got a bit of a fresh start because you've got Daniel Nieszkowski's come in as a coach and you've got a new player
00:34Through the door already as well in Diego Gomez. He's now officially a Brighton player
00:39See someone that comes straight in to selection or does he need some time of course he he had no
00:47two three weeks off of holiday because in in the MLS the the season is finished, so
00:54He needs for sure a little bit time, but I'm sure he's in a great shape. He trained hard during
01:00during his holiday what I heard and
01:02That's I'm really looking forward to to see him as quick as possible on the pitch
01:09That's too early yes
01:12Any new injury issues or anyone back this weekend?
01:18Adam Adam will be back. Hopefully checkers is close
01:24And I think the rest will will stay the same. Okay. It's 30 any closer to coming back
01:33unfortunately not
01:35Would it be a while? I think so okay, and and you know we're asking this question every week about Danny Welbeck
01:42And it must be frustrating for you just dealing with the fact you don't have him available at the moment
01:46And I was asking the questions to you every week, but is he going to be?
01:50Absent longer term it's a chance. He could be back soon. That's that's the thing like I
01:56Can't say clear schedule when he will be back so it can be
02:01Next week it can be real quick, but it can also take
02:04Two three four more weeks, so they really have to go day by day
02:09He is without any pain so that's a really good thing and he's back on the on the pitch
02:16But then we have to go really day by day, and hopefully he will be back soon. Yeah, and then with Danny out
02:21there's obviously an opportunity for
02:24Which our patrons been playing a bit more further forward, but Evan Ferguson is you know?
02:28There's so many rumors about him, but he's got big part to play potentially hasn't he for you in the next few months
02:34if he
02:36Would be fit yes
02:38He is he out this weekend as well. Yeah, he will be also this like the last weekend
02:43It's not longer
02:45Also, there. It's like not an easy not an easy
02:50issue
02:51but I hope that it doesn't take too long, so
02:54Let's see how it's going also there. I don't want to make or say
02:58Any clear predicts because I don't know it and we really have to go week for week and hope that he's a good healer
03:08It's a silly time of year transfer speculation for weeks or so of it coming up
03:13Do you think anyone else is likely to come in this month, and can you guarantee that you'll keep hold of your best players?
03:21So I think we
03:23That's the policy from the club that we never comment any any rumors and
03:28any
03:30transfer
03:32Issues, so I think we will keep it like that okay, and then just finally for me almost one at Arsenal earlier this season
03:38They're in a fantastic run of form on a 12 games. I'm beating in all competitions
03:42What do you have to do to try and get a positive result?
03:46How hard is it to play that they wanted the most difficult teams to play against at the moment?
03:51Push our limits and in every phase of the game continue
03:55To play with courage continue to play intense
03:58I think that's what we showed the last games of course the results were not were not good, but in the end we
04:05We showed really good performances. We
04:08Showed that we are able to beat every team in this league, and we already proved it
04:13So I think it's very important that we that we play with our identity our identity means to play intense if you don't play intense
04:20We have no chance against
04:22Arsenal if you don't play with courage in possession we we have no chance
04:26So I think these two fit two things are the main thing and of course
04:31Another big part of the game are set pieces, so when you see how
04:35How much danger they can create by a set piece then we have to take care of these things and
04:43It's also part of the football game and a big part so these three things are very important for the game
04:50I
04:52Think the two goals you conceded at Villa came immediately after corners
04:57So you know what what are your thoughts on defending set pieces at the moment with Arsenal coming? I think
05:04goals of the set piece always can happen and
05:08How we concede the goals is more like a second wave so it was not like that they had a
05:14direct chance after after cross
05:17I think we we weren't clean enough after we we won the ball so in both situations. We won the ball
05:23but we weren't clean enough to
05:25to find the right exit and
05:28Find the right exit ball, and that's why I think that we have to prove there
05:31We have to find a clear strategy how we want to how we want to proceed after we win the first
05:38Personal jewel in the in the set piece, and that's something what we what we can work on
05:43Any team's always going to miss a world-class player
05:47But so much of Arsenal's attacking threat came down the right with Bukayo Saka
05:52How different are they with him on the sidelines?
05:57Yeah of course
06:00He's a easy player who makes a difference for sure but in the end we saw it also yesterday
06:06They have enough world-class players to to replace him, so there's not only one world-class player in the squad
06:12there are several world-class players especially in the
06:15in the offensive line so
06:17for sure they have different opportunities and possibilities to replace him and
06:22It's a different game with him for sure because he's a he's a left footed player
06:27Tries to always come inside the pitch has good one against one situations good crosses
06:33But it doesn't mean that it's an easier game for us found him
06:38You told us when you first arrived how you have a long-term target of challenging and breaking the establishment
06:45So when you go up against these teams, do you feel an iota of extra?
06:51anticipation or excitement or anything I
06:53I
06:55Think every Premier League game is something special to be honest and it's a
07:00Experience against every Premier League team, and that's why of course Arsenal's a world-class team at the moment
07:07maybe
07:08One of the best teams in the world and it's a challenge for us
07:12And it's a possibility for us to to prove ourselves how far we are and our procedure how close we are
07:18To challenge really the establishment and that's something where we can prove ourselves and that should be motivation enough
07:24and with Brighton's form or
07:27Results at the moment. I looked back at your first season at st
07:30Powley, I think you had a similar run of seven eight games without a win and then in January you won ten in a row
07:37What did you learn from from that experience? Are there any similarities with what's happening here today? I
07:43Think you can't compare
07:46The situations and in football because they're so different
07:51things happen because of different reasons, but in the end you had experience and
07:57These opinions you made it gives you
08:00Gives you like help and gives you orientation how to how to behave in these situations how to come back to the
08:07to the results and
08:09That's why of course you can't compare them because all the situations are
08:13Different but in the end you have some
08:16Clear patterns you can trust and clear patterns in your own behavior clear patterns in the team behavior that might help and therefore
08:23we just try to to continue our work because we think that we are in the right way we
08:30Are able to beat everyone. We showed it also in the last games that
08:35Despite from the bad results. We had some really good performances and that's what I always try to say
08:41It's like just the process and also during the period where we had great results
08:46I said always trust the process because you should be always predictable in your behavior, especially as a coach you
08:53Should give this feeling also to the whole club that we're on the right way and we are on the right way
08:58I will be more concerned if we if you don't have these performances
09:02so in the end
09:03I'm sure that when you work hard when you
09:05When you get this game luck back
09:07And you have really have to invest and work for it to get this game luck back. Then the results will come again
09:13Good stuff rich did a great job going through all the injuries. Just wondered about purpose as he recovered from illness
09:19Hopefully I can't say it
09:22now, but
09:23We have to wait today and tomorrow if he's available
09:27Thank you
09:28Fabian we're we're at the halfway stage of the season
09:33What have you learned from the first half of your first campaign and or is there anything particular that's maybe surprised you or
09:40a bit more challenging than you maybe thought I
09:45Think I already said it it's the intensity
09:50from the Premier League and also
09:53Like that it's so unpredictable
09:55it's so competitive so everyone is able to beat another team and
10:00You see it every weekend so that also the the teams from
10:06from lower position in the table can beat a top team and that's something was very special and I really like the
10:14the quality from all the teams because it's always challenging to prepare your own team all the
10:19The coaches have like great ideas all the coaches have like a good style of play
10:23And it's always a big challenge to prepare myself to prepare the team to this game
10:28and that's something what I what I really see as a challenge and I really like it because I
10:34improve every day I can learn from it every day and
10:37That's something what what makes me a lot of fun. And that's something what I'm also a bit surprised. Yes
10:44Because when you look at your results
10:46You've actually got more points against the top six teams than you have against the bottom
10:49Six things does that illustrate exactly what you're saying?
10:52And how maybe is your is your glass half full or glass half empty perhaps? It's a difficult one
10:58That's exactly how you see the situation so you can
11:01Say we are not able to to win games against these teams on that
11:06Perspective you can say we are really difficult to to beat because in the end, I think there are only one or two teams in the league
11:13who
11:14Where the less lost and then we have so I think you always can see it from that or that perspective
11:21And in the end, I'm very positive guy
11:23So I see that the class is half full and
11:26I see more the positive things and then a negative thing general in in my life and I try to stay positive. I try to
11:35to
11:36give the trust and the belief to the club and and to the players and then I'm sure that
11:43The class will be also really really full one day
11:47And
11:49Just run on Arsenal Paul mentioned about set pieces, but in terms of their overall package
11:55What do you make of Arsenal particularly two good strong centre-backs? Are they real title contenders? Do you think this season?
12:02Yeah, they're always so
12:06Because of the squad because of the journey they made with a theta because of their style of play I think they
12:15They are really good in all phases of the game
12:17So they understood that the defensive phase is important that the offensive phase is important that set pieces are important
12:24and they are really good in all phases of the game, so
12:29They proved
12:31What it means to really just the process. I think when I look back back at the start with a theta day
12:37they struggled they had problems, but
12:40They just keep going on they improve the details they improve themselves in every phase and now you see the output so
12:47I have a huge respect for for him and his team and the work and the journey they went through
