00:00Excuse me, sir. Yes. Are you John Schmidt? You know it, the one and only.

00:16He was very easy for the rest of us to sing with, and we thought, John Schmidt, we are God.

00:24He just had a voice that would never stop.

00:31Everybody agreed that John had a great voice and was a good singer.

00:35John and I grew up in the same small rural town, central Illinois.

00:41Her dad went to ask her hand for marriage. He looked at me and said, John, you're a good boy, but not good enough. Hold it.

00:49I just was told that I couldn't marry my girlfriend.

00:53That was the 70s, you know, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

00:56I learned how to drink and snort to where I could be sober or act sober. I learned how to control it.

01:04You know, I can get this under control. You know, yeah, you're right. I'm glad you said something.

01:09I said, no, John, you don't understand. This is over.

01:13John had been out of music now five years.

01:18I had no intentions of ever singing again.

01:21A prophet comes up to me and says, John, you're going to have a big change soon.

01:26And I'm going, oh, no, not again.

01:28Bob Hartman called. I'll check with John and see.

01:31And I said, well, this is Bob Hartman from Petra and said, would you consider singing for Petra?

01:36And I, I mean, that came out of the blue.

01:40We're in the middle of a new project now. We hope you're just excited about it.

01:50I mean, his personality is perfect.

01:52That was a start of the Petra that I think really went forward with John's long lasting career.

02:05I will say that that's probably the closest I've ever been to feeling like the Beatles.

02:13He's one of the most unique people I've ever met.

02:15John is a genuine person.

02:18That dude lives what he says.
