00:00The Philippine Men's National Football Team lost in the leg 1 of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 Semifinals against Thailand last night.
00:08Let's go back to Daryl Oclares' news center.
00:15Miracle in Manila was witnessed by more than 7,000 Filipino football fans at Rizal Memorial Stadium last Friday night.
00:24This was after the Philippine Men's National Football Team won 2-1 in the leg 1 of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 Semifinals against the defending champions, Thailand.
00:39In the first half, Sandro Reyes scored a goal in the 21st minute to give an advantage to the Philippines, which was ahead in the semis in the first half since 2018.
00:52Thailand didn't just let go of the lead of Sofanan Burirat, who scored a three-minute goal before the halftime.
01:02In the second half, both teams became more aggressive and broke the deadlock several times.
01:09However, the wind changed in the extra five minutes after the play was stopped by the home team led by head coach Albert Capillas.
01:21From Zico Bailey's free kick to Paul Tabinas, a game-winning header from Kikei Linares was the key to the Philippines' first win in the AFF Tournament semifinals.
01:34This was also the country's first victory against Thailand after 52 years.
01:51I'm so proud because this team, they are fighters, they believe, they fight so much for this country. I'm so proud for them.
01:59And the win at the end, I think, give us what we deserve. I'm very happy.
02:07According to the player of the match, Reyes, the group stage experienced a bitter experience in the semis where they lost one game and three goals.
02:18We suffered. We suffered the entire group stage. And I think the group stage was a perfect practice for today because we suffered a lot.
02:25And we found a way to get out of all of that, all of those hurdles. We went through hell and we came out.
02:32The target of Pambansang Kupunan is to win the second leg of the semifinals in Bangkok on December 30 to advance to the finals of the tournament in the first season.
02:42Daryl Oclares for Pambansang TV in Bago, Philippines.
