00:27Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi also paid a floral tribute in Chennai to honor the victims.
00:35Fatima Babu, an advisor to the Fishermen's Association, described December 26 as a black
00:41day.
00:42We can never forget what happened on that black day, the 26th of December 2004, but
00:50as long as the sea is being tampered with, this is going to happen repeatedly.
00:56If you want to save the coast, the coastal communities, the entire planet, and the seas,
01:02it should be ensured that no harm is done, no damage is done to the sea.
01:09The Indian Ocean tsunami, triggered by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Indonesia's
01:15Aceh province on December 26, 2004, claimed over 230,000 lives across 14 countries, including
01:24India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
01:28According to UNESCO, more than 16,200 people in India were either killed or went missing
01:35due to the tsunami.
01:37In Tamil Nadu alone, approximately 730,000 individuals were displaced, and hundreds of
01:43thousands of homes and buildings along the coastline were destroyed by the massive waves.
