Luxembourg remains Europe's top investor in space in a year when defence spending on space exceeded civil space budgets for the first time since the 1990s.

00:08Public investment in space reached a historic global high of 106 billion euros in 2023,

00:17representing an 11% increase from 2022.

00:21For the first time since the 90s, defense spending on space exceeded civil space budgets last year.

00:29The US remains the largest single space budget by far, with 64%, followed by China at 12%.

00:38Europe comes in third place, with 11% of the global space budget in 2023.

00:44Luxembourg has the highest share of public space budget relative to GDP in Europe.

00:50France, Italy and Belgium are the next EU countries following closely behind.

00:56On the other hand, private investments in space continue its decline in 2023.

01:02Europe also saw a 14% decrease in 2023 compared to the year before,

01:08with private space ventures receiving just below 908 million euros.

01:15Although the US accounts for most of the global decline in 2023,

01:19its space sector continues to attract the largest share of investments at 60%,

01:25followed by Europe with 16% and China with 9%.
