Dutch court sentences five men over violence against Maccabi fans in Amsterdam

The five defendants, who are all Dutch residents and aged between 19 and 32, were accused of public violence, theft and assault.

00:06erupted around a football match between Ajax and Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv in November.

00:13One man was sentenced to six months in prison, another to two and a half months and two others

00:19to one month each. A fifth defendant received 100 hours of community service. Accused of

00:25public violence, theft and assault. They were all Dutch residents and aged between

00:3019 and 32 years old. The incidents left five people in hospital, 20 others with minor injuries

00:37and more than 60 people were detained. According to an investigation the day before the game,

00:42authorities reported several incidents, including Israeli fans tearing a Palestinian flag from

00:48an Amsterdam building and attacking a taxi. One widely circulated video showed attackers

00:55chanting anti-Israeli slurs, whilst another captured football fans chanting anti-Arab

01:00slogans before the match.
