00:00The Department of the Interior and Local Government, or DILG,

00:04or BIR, filed a solution against the misuse of PWD or Persons with Disabilities' ID.

00:11Here is the report.

00:14Digitalization.

00:15This is the answer that the Department of the Interior and Local Government

00:19is seeing in the misuse of PWD ID.

00:21According to DILG Assistant Secretary Jesse Lanete,

00:24having a centralized database for Persons with Disabilities in the country

00:28is the solution they see for the users of PWD IDs.

00:33In fact, one of the things that we see,

00:37one way to address this ultimately,

00:39is I think technology is the way moving forward.

00:43What our other government agencies have done is very good.

00:46When they integrate, for example, technology here in EGOV app,

00:52in fact, we were thinking out loud,

00:55what if we had a master list, a true master list of PWDs and it was issued.

01:00There is a centralized database and these names are accessible through the EGOV app.

01:06So it's like you have an ID that verifies that you really have a PWD.

01:10That's one thing also that we're considering.

01:14According to the Bureau of Internal Revenue,

01:16it will be faced with the complaint of tax evasion,

01:19and imprisonment of anyone who can prove their involvement in the sale and use of PWD IDs.

01:25The government is also losing money.

01:28The government is losing income because 20% of the GDP is lost.

01:34So that means, instead of using it for the projects of our government,

01:40and the PWDs are really benefiting,

01:43it's the fraudsters who are benefiting.

01:45The BIR also ordered the strict monitoring of other government agencies

01:49and establishments that have transactions related to PWDs

01:53to support the alleged illegal activities.
