00:00On this day in space.
00:03In 1972, Apollo 17 became the last mission to put humans on the moon.
00:08With two astronauts on board, the Lunar Module Challenger
00:11touched down in an area called the Taurus-Littrow Valley,
00:14where they spent three days doing moonwalks and collecting samples.
00:17Commander Gene Cernan was the last person to set foot on the moon,
00:20as he followed the Lunar Module pilot, Harrison Schmidt,
00:22back into the spacecraft on the last day.
00:25Ronald Evans, the Command Module pilot,
00:27never got the chance to walk on the moon like his crewmates did,
00:29because he had to hang out by himself in lunar orbit.
00:32And that's what happened on this day in space.
00:35Music.
