Santa comes to the Alpaca farm

00:00Welcome to Lolan Farm, where there's a lot of activity going on during the week with all the animals and the alpacas.

00:08So, at the moment we're running Santa on the Farm, it's our fourth year of doing it.

00:13It's a really lovely event for the children to come along, we've got all the animals,

00:17they go in the festive barn and make a magical reindeer feed, write a letter to Santa and a bauble,

00:26and then they go off to see Santa with one of the alpacas, and to see Santa in his grotto.

00:32It's just got a really lovely feeling to it, and we get such a lovely response,

00:36because obviously it's a magical time for the children, and it just all rubs off on everybody.

00:45Today I'm volunteering as an elf, and I'm showing people what's in the barn,

00:52and I'm letting them walk the alpacas as well.

00:55So it's my first Christmas, but I'm really liking it so far, I like the Christmas music,

01:01and even when there isn't an event, they still play Christmas music, and it's just really nice.

01:06So does it help you get in a Christmas spirit as well?

01:09Yeah, definitely.

01:10There's just so many different Christmassy things, it involves all the different animals somehow,

01:16the goats have their little outfits, Pebbles the pony, he has a little Christmas mane, it's just so fun.

01:23Obviously as you get older, you kind of experience the magicalness less,

01:29so ever since I've volunteered here, I've got more in the Christmas spirit.

01:33Everything that we kind of do is, like I said, just really magical.

01:38With everything we do on the farm, we might be separate daily, just trying to get all the jobs done,

01:44whereas at Christmas we're all helping each other with making reefs,

01:48we're all together as elves, and Santa is probably the best part,

01:53because of how good he is, he tells stories to all the children.

01:57I think my favourite part, personally on days like this, is seeing the smiles on their faces,

02:03and that's just kind of interacting with everyone, so even if it's the animals, Santa, the elves, anything like that,

02:09they're always smiling, and that's my favourite part, to see the joy that they get from it.

02:14He's got all the animals' stockings up at the moment, so he's got to fill their presents.

02:18So what was it like on Christmas Day?

02:21On Christmas Day, so we try and spend as much time down here as we possibly can,

02:27because it's a normal day for them, but for us, obviously we want to be at home,

02:33but being with the animals is kind of a part of our routine, and it's part of their routine,

02:38so we like to fill up their stockings, so we act like they know it's Christmas, I think they do, in some way,

02:44but it's very magical, especially if it snows here, it's very, very nice.

02:56This is our first day today, unfortunately we were hit by the gales yesterday,

03:00so it just made it a bit difficult yesterday, getting everything ready,

03:05but we're up and running and we've had a super day today.
