00:00Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Sri Muhammad Sanusi Madnor has been acquitted and discharged of
00:05one charge of sedition by the Shah Alam High Court over alleged remarks against the Sultan
00:11of Selangor in a political speech last year.
00:14Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin delivered the ruling after Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk
00:19Masri Muhammad Daud informed the court that the prosecution did not intend to proceed
00:25with the first charge against the Janeri State Assemblyman and sought to withdraw it.
00:30However, the second charge of uttering seditious remarks against the Sultan of Pahang, who
00:36was the young Dipertuan Agong at the time, will proceed to trial from February 24 to
00:4228 next year.
00:44According to the two separate charges, Muhammad Sanusi was accused of making statements with
00:49the tendency to incite disloyalty towards the monarchy.
00:54The Perikatan National Election Director allegedly committed the offence during a political speech
00:59on July 11, 2023.
01:03Both charges were brought under Section 4, Subsection 1A of the Sedition Act, 1948, which
01:10carries a fine of up to 5,000 ringgit or a maximum of three years in prison, or both,
01:16on conviction.
