Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Sri Muhammad Sanusi Madnor has been acquitted and discharged of
00:05
one charge of sedition by the Shah Alam High Court over alleged remarks against the Sultan
00:11
of Selangor in a political speech last year.
00:14
Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin delivered the ruling after Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk
00:19
Masri Muhammad Daud informed the court that the prosecution did not intend to proceed
00:25
with the first charge against the Janeri State Assemblyman and sought to withdraw it.
00:30
However, the second charge of uttering seditious remarks against the Sultan of Pahang, who
00:36
was the young Dipertuan Agong at the time, will proceed to trial from February 24 to
00:42
28 next year.
00:44
According to the two separate charges, Muhammad Sanusi was accused of making statements with
00:49
the tendency to incite disloyalty towards the monarchy.
00:54
The Perikatan National Election Director allegedly committed the offence during a political speech
00:59
on July 11, 2023.
01:03
Both charges were brought under Section 4, Subsection 1A of the Sedition Act, 1948, which
01:10
carries a fine of up to 5,000 ringgit or a maximum of three years in prison, or both,
01:16
on conviction.
