Countdown to KhalifaSat Launch

00:00As-salamu alaykum, hello everyone, my name is Amer Alsayegh, I'm the project manager of Khalifasat.

00:06With me here is an exact replica of Khalifasat, but of course smaller in size.

00:10I'd like just to give you a quick description of what this satellite is.

00:15Here you can see definitely four solar panels. These are the source of power in our satellites.

00:22And this hexagonal shape is actually the mechanical structure of the satellite.

00:28Inside it, most of our electronics, from batteries, to computers, to storage memories,

00:36to different systems that will control the satellite.

00:39Of course on the outside, we see this big tube.

00:42This is the most important part of the satellite, and that is the camera.

00:47This camera is around 1.2 meters in size,

00:51and it will be most of the time pointing to Earth, taking images to the ground.

00:56You can see different black things, these are sun sensors.

01:01In space, it's very important to know where the location of the sun is,

01:05to be able to point our solar panel to the sun.

01:09This is an interesting part, it's a moving thing, it's called an antenna,

01:14and it will be beaming whatever images we have taken of Earth,

01:19back to Earth, to our ground station.

01:22And it will be moving to track the location of the ground station as the satellite is moving in space.

01:28This is just a quick description of our satellite.

01:46We are keen to have you with us monitoring the launch event,

01:53which will happen on Monday at 8 or 8 a.m.
